About Me

Matt Dorsey- “A Dave Matthews sound with a twist of folk and blues.”Growing up in a small town in Tennessee, Matt has been surrounded by music his whole life. A distant relative to June Carter, Matt has had music in his family for many generations. His uncle played with the Marshall Tucker Band and has written many songs for different artists in Nashville, TN. Matt’s parents traveled in a Christian singing group for many years, and the rest of his family are all musically inclined. His influences include a variety of genres from artists such as James Taylor, Angie Aparo, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Dave Matthews, and the list goes on.With a focus on sports most of his life, he didn’t pick up the guitar or vocals until he went away to college. He is your typical musician that plays only by ear, and everything unraveled once he taught himself to play and sing. He met a local artist named Dave Wright and the two of them started becoming a hit at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. The gigs and fans started following the acoustic duo. They recorded a 6 song demo with Matt’s uncle in Nashville and started playing different venues all along the east coast. Matt then built a southern rock band that had an Allman Brothers feel which was quite successful. However, Matt decided to focus mainly on the acoustic performances and that is where his talent shined. “You don’t expect that powerful voice and once he plays his first song, the audience is captured.”- (Worth Archenbaum- longtime fan).Matt went through a writing block as most musicians do. This lasted a few years until he met his now wife, Camille, and the inspiration and songs began to follow. His first song “Mexico” has that folk-acoustic sound and it tells of their first date in Mexico. It was recorded and played as their first song at their wedding in St. Thomas, USVI. Matt is now working as a guitarist with a reggae band in San Diego and you could possibly see him at the House of Blues and other large venues this summer. He is also working on an acoustic CD which will be finished this year. .
