Research and conservation on primates has been conducted for many years, on national and international scale. Orangutans have been neglected for a long time, compared to the chimpanzees and gorillas.. Recent estimates of orangutan population size show an alarming situation, where orangutans will become extinct within years without our help.Being inspired by our experience and the enormous threat that surrounds orangutans, we wanted to continue doing research and protect orangutans and their habitats.
We started to explore the possibilities for starting our own projects. Unfortunately there is not much support for these small scale initiatives in the Netherlands.With one general goal, we formed a group and started talking about possible solutions for support. There was one conclusion: A new foundation.By starting the Pongo Foundation we hope to contribute to a good future for orangutans and their habitat.MISSION:
The mission of the Pongo Foundation is to conduct and promote research and conservation of orangutans and their habitat. With individual projects we want to be active in the forests, protect orangutans and support sustainability and the development of local communities as well.-------------------------------------------------------
