About Me

Jazzman Jorge began studying guitar at 12 years old after being influenced by The Beatles. When he was attending Plantation High School, he was influenced by hard rock and heavy metal from artists like Jimi Hendrix, Led Zepplin, Deep Purple, Van Halen, Yngwie Malmsteen, Joe Satriani, Vinnie Moore, Aerosmith, Kiss, and Metallica. When he was a sophomore at Plantation High School, he began to perform with other rock musicians and joined the Planation High School jazz band. At this time, he studied guitar with Martian Hand who influenced him in learning rock, blues, pop, jazz rhythm guitar, and helped him understand and perform jazz rhythm guitar in the jazz band. When he transfered to American Heritage in his junior year in high school, he studied with Paul Shuster. With Paul Shuster, he was influenced to study jazz and classical guitar. Some of Jazzman Jorge's jazz influences, are Wes Montgomery, Joe Pass, Charlie Christian, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gilespie, Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, John Coltrane, Bill Evans, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Stan Getz, Charlie Byrd, and Jimmy Bruno. After graduating from American Heritage, he went to Broward Community College where he studied music theory and performed with the Broward Community College jazz band. Jazzman Jorge studied classical guitar with Yasime Mowad. When Jorge transfered to Florida International University, he was a music major and studied jazz guitar. Some of his professors that he studied with were Mike and Nicky Orta, John Bailey, Bob Grabowski, Sam Lussier, and Linsay Blair (his jazz guitar professor at Florida International University). Also, Jazzman Jorge studied classical guitar with Carlos Molina. While at Florida International University, he and his classmates went out to jazz and blues clubs and performed at open jam sessions.Jazzman Jorge also performed with a jazz quartet called the East Coast Jazz Band. By this time, Jazzman Jorge's blues influences are B.B. King, Albert King, Freddie King, Albert Collins, and Stevie Ray Vaughn as well as his classical influences like, Mozart, Beethoven, J.S. Bach, Andres Segovia, John Williams, and Pepe Romero. He graduated Florida International University with a bachelor degree in music performance in jazz studies. He also performed solo jazz/classical guitar in bookstores, coffeehouses, and private parties. When Jazzman Jorge is not playing guitar, he likes to excersise such as swimming, jogging, and yoga. Some of his favorite t.v. show he enjoys watching are Two and a Half Men, How I Met Your Mother, the History Channel, AMC, Dancing With The Stars, and So You Think You Can Dance. He also likes action, drama, documentary, science fiction, and comedy movies. Currently, Jazzman Jorge is performing with the acoustic rock trio, "Where's George?", in which they perform at clubs and private parties as well as performing solo jazz, rock, and classical guitar in local venues. In addition to performing with "Where's George?", Jazzman Jorge is the electric lead guitarist for the hard rock band, "Virago Valentine." Jazzman Jorge also teaches jazz, blues, rock and classical guitar. Jazzman Jorge always says, "Keep supporting your local music scene! Without it, you will not see the talent that is out there in your town. Support the local venues that have live entertainment. You keep the local artists working and create an city of art and culture."
