My Interests

Music:

Band Members: LINDA GAME fiddle/mandolin/mandola/ vocals After doing a teaching degree at the Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff, Linda discovered folk music! Since moving to Brighton 21 years ago Linda has played differing styles, from jazz and rock through to traditional music. She played for the Brighton based American Appalachian dance team Broken Ankles for 18 years, and was one of The Kitchen Girls. She has recently left Brighton’s Folk Rock band The Fold, after 13 years of rocking! At the moment she is also a member of Token Women and The English Contra Dance Band. . ............................................................ ..........................................................JO MAY percussion/vocals In Zoox Jo draws on her knowledge of different traditions around the world, using instruments such as the djembe, bodhran, darabuka and congas. Jo trained at the Royal College of Music and began her career working with orchestras such as the BBC Symphony Orchestra. A trip to Sidmouth Folk Festival sparked an enthusiasm for traditional music, and has led to her involvement with folk groups, including the ceilidh band Token Women and the European group Freyja. She also worked with the trio, Tapatak. Outside of Zoox Jo runs a range of exciting rhythm-based workshops from djembe to spoons ! ............................................................ ....................................................BECKY MENDAY saxes/whistles/contrabassoon/vocals Initially playing soprano sax for a klezmer band, Becky was soon adding her melodies to the wonderful percussive sounds of Kerry Fletcher and Jo May in Tapatak. Her musical influences particularly come from Klezmer and Eastern European Music, as well as traditional music from around the British Isles, contemporary pop, dance and classical music. As a professional bassoonist, Becky played with orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic, London Philharmonic and Glyndebourne Touring Opera.
