About Me
SHE DID IT ALL! From her Vaudeville stage debut at age three with her family, Martha Raye went on to conquer literally every entertainment medium — stage, screen, radio, television, records, night clubs, as well as countless performances for her beloved Armed Forces. She was in demand as a co-star for the most legendary comics and entertainers of Hollywood and Broadway — Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, Jack Benny, George Burns & Gracie Allen, W.C. Fields, Eddie Cantor, Al Jolson, Bob Burns, Jimmy Durante, Abbott & Costello, The Three Stooges, Milton Berle, Olsen & Johnson, Jackie Gleason, and Charlie Chaplin.
For a lifetime of giving of herself, Martha Raye was awarded the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Academy Award in 1968, the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1993, and was a Legend Nominee in the 1999 American Film Institute's 100 Years -- 100 Stars program. Affectionately known as "Maggie," she was the subject of an A&E Biography segment in October 1999.See Maggie's friend and biographer Noonie Fortin's website for more about Maggie and how to order Noonie's wonderful books:
