Duygu Solmaz also known as D-Lizz was born in Mersin ( South Turkey). At the age of 3 her parents divorced forcing Duygu’s mom and 2 sisters to live with their grandmother. Amongst difficulties and transitioning, Duygu always found comfort in jam sessions her grandfather and uncles would host. This is when her love for music began to flourish. At six years old Duygu’s mother decided to move to Holland. This made had a big impact on Duygu’s life and school. In high school she spent her time in class writing poems later rap lyrics formed in place of dedicating herself to regular studies. She spent a lot of time listening to music and brushing up on her dance moves. Much of her time was spent on writing when she didn’t take dance lessons. This when D-lizz started rapping and tailored songs from her hand-written contents. “The guys called me delicious" referring to her B-girl times, practicing breakdance moves with guys at the Stadhuisplein in her hometown, Eindhoven. One day one of those same fellows gave her a beat. It had D-Lizz engraved on it. She asked "what do you mean with D-lizz?" She said, the guy replied "it's your nickname from now onâ€. D-Lizz started recording more and more and found herself in the Herman Brood Academy in 2007. Being the ONLY female MC at her academy was not easy nor was being the only Turkish student of her class but she persevered.
Finally, we meet D-Lizz in the present day...her album is called 'Reflection'. This album is based on the personal life experiences of D-Lizz for the empowerment of other young women. "This upcoming album is for them. To let them know that it’s OK when you feel insecure, when you go through bad days..." D expresses that she wants to let them know that you should take every experience in life as a lesson learned and move on and that history does not have to repeat itself. "A lot of girls aren’t realizing that so this is for YOU" Reflection is a reflection of every girls life.
