Influences: Harry grew up in Philadelphia during the1960’s where he was exposed to the full spectrum of musical genres. His musical interests and inspirations are deep and began with the early rockin’ blues of Paul Butterfield and the ever rebellious rock band Steppenwolf. Motown and R&B played a huge part with artist such as The Temptations, Ray Charles, and James Brown and was the backdrop of everyday life in Philly. On the opposite end of the spectrum honky tonk heroes such as Hank Williams, Johnny Cash and George Jones drew Harry to them with their heartfelt country ballads full of bad luck and bruised pride. Nonetheless, it was The Blues itself which drew Harry into music the deepest. Bluesmen such as McKinley Morganfield, Otis Spann and the great Little Walter captured Harry’s ear, heart and his passion. Musician’s including Rice Miller, Shaky Horton, James Cotton, Junior Wells and George Smith all became a part of Harry’s musical education.
Nevertheless, the impetus for Harry’s own musical expression came from an interest developed in the music of a man who seemed to combine many of the musical qualities which Harry admired from the past and present. To this day Harry is still inspired by music of the man they call Memphis Charlie Musselwhite.
