Ken Kimi

I began my musical career by touring NZ & Australia with Auckland group Y-one in 1989, and again from 1992-1994. Then became the assistant music director as well as Bass Guitar and Sequencing tutor at Excel School of Performing Arts for 3 years and did some itinerant bass tutoring in my time off!I was asked to record, play live and tour for various NZ bands including Platinum selling and Tui award winners, the Parachute Band & Colliding Traits. I continued my career as a bass player for Dave Grace and the popular dance band Black Dog as well as cover bands Perfect Strangers, Shimmer & Ground Zero. I also performed in the well known Irish band Instant Kalma and was session bass player for the Irish Dance Production ‘Feet of Fire’ show at the Aotea Centre.I am currently working with two solo artists, Jamie Gray to record his album, music videos & playing live. Through this work with Jamie Gray I teamed up with drummer Simon McDowell and this paved the way to meeting and gigging with Steve Edwards (signed with Anyway Records) and recently was support with Steve for Storm Large & the Balls in Auckland.I am currently studying at Auckland University for a Degree in Music (Jazz) Bass major.
