Harry J and The Conspiracy

MC, Rapper, Multi-instrumentalist and Cork's official 'King of the Bling', Harry J, has worked with many famous DJ's & Sound Systems and fronted a variety of bands playing Reggae/Jazz/Drum & Bass. Close your eyes and you'd swear it was Gregory Isaacs...or is it Gil Scott Heron?Partly Carib-Indian, Portuguese & Irish, Harry J arrived in Cork in 1996 from Wales, and with his legendary live vocal sets (with DJ Bellyman) was a pioneer of the early Cork reggae movement.While putting a band together to play his own songs (Downtown Crossing), Harrys worldly experience of improvising got him the gig with another band called Nuca,where he would have to constantly ad lib over grooves which cascaded from style to style. It was with these musicians that his musical repetoire would finally be exploited to its full potential.With his new backing band 'The Conspiracy',Harry J plays bass and sings accompanied by Rory McGovern (keys and guitar), Derek Kelly (drums), Dave Carvelle (sax) ,Peter Ryan (guitar), Alan Pentony (organ/backing vocals). Playing a mixture of soulful Reggae known as 'lovers Rock', and dubbed-up funk/jazz, written mostly by Harry himself.Harry is the MC of choice for Rootical Sound System (throughout Ireland and more recently in there new home in Berlin), DJ Bellyman (the Wailers favorite DJ, and also with FeileAfrica Sound system (including Dun Laoghaire festival of world cultures).Just some of the artist supported by Harrys Conspiracys include: The Wailers, The Skatalites, Horace Andy, Eek-a-Mouse, Hilight Tribe, ....and festival Gigs this year include:Electric Picnic, Mitchelstown, Kinsale Arts Week, Life, Mantua, Beamish Experience and Cork Jazz festival.Alongside the retrospective recording of his lifes songs,Harry still manages to push himself through the most modern of contemparary styles and is featured with Drum N Bass/Dubstep DJ's and also regularly joins 'WIGGLE' - live electronic/digi-dub band.
