About Me

But first... how about a little music?

I love music, even though I don't make it, and film, which I'm starting to learn. I got a bachelor's in Mediterranean history, and am a year away from a master's in American history (featuring-- what else?-- immigrants!) I love other cultures, and travelling, and the new thoughts, friends, and surprises those kinds of things can bring. I also love late nights, strong coffee, and hot weather.
Rather than tell you all about all my contradictions, I'll just let them seep out over time, like they always do anyway. All you really need to know is, if I get a little moody at times (you know, Edgar Allen Poe-style), it's only because I really do care, and hate it when something blocks my ability to express my natural enthusiasms, burbling passions, mild obsessions, and loves great and small. It's these things that really make me who I am! And like the man said, the world is a vampire, baby...

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Speaking of the cause...

I've already had the chance to meet some of the people I've really wanted to, including Arlo and Marjorie Guthrie, Allen Ginsburg and William S. Burroughs, Jello Biafra and Dave MDC, Judi Bari and some of the MOVE family, and I saw Vito Russo lecture "Rebel Without A Cause" once at UCSC, just by sheer luck. I've also met most of 99 Posse and the Ataraxia kids, two of my fave bands. I got to know Harry Hay a little bit before he died. I'd like to meet John Waters, Angela Davis, Cindy Sheehan.
My greatest heros are all tragically dead: Pasolini, Paul Robeson, Sal Mineo, Darby Crash, Derek Jarman...
SOME FAVORITE VIDEOS!
Here's a bit of what I'm listening to these days....

HERE ARE A FEW OLD CLASSICS THAT I JUST LOVE:
Comuntwist, by 99 Posse:

L'Anguilla (The Eel), by 99 Posse:

Open Your Eyes, by Lords of the New Church:

Reward, by The Teardrop Explodes:

Talk Talk, by Talk Talk:

Homosapien, by Pete Shelley:

Poetry Corner
A Dream
by Edgar Allan Poe, 1837.
In visions of the dark night
I have dreamed of joy departed
But a waking dream of life and light
Hath left me broken-hearted.

Ah! what is not a dream by day
To him whose eyes are cast
On things around him with a ray
Turned back upon the past?

That holy dream - that holy dream,
While all the world were chiding,
Hath cheered me as a lovely beam
A lonely spirit guiding.

What though that light, thro' storm and night,
So trembled from afar
What could there be more purely bright
In Truth's day-star?

Once, if memory serves... I was in a punk rock band.

I was in a punk rock band called "Comrades In Arms." We were the first all-male, all-queer, all "out" punk rock band in history, to the best of our knowledge. Back then it was still called "Homocore,"...
