Speaking of the cause...
I've already had the chance to meet some of the people I've really wanted to, including Arlo and Marjorie Guthrie, Allen Ginsburg and William S. Burroughs, Jello Biafra and Dave MDC, Judi Bari and some of the MOVE family, and I saw Vito Russo lecture "Rebel Without A Cause" once at UCSC, just by sheer luck. I've also met most of 99 Posse and the Ataraxia kids, two of my fave bands. I got to know Harry Hay a little bit before he died. I'd like to meet John Waters, Angela Davis, Cindy Sheehan.
My greatest heros are all tragically dead: Pasolini, Paul Robeson, Sal Mineo, Darby Crash, Derek Jarman...

A Dream
by Edgar Allan Poe, 1837.
In visions of the dark night
I have dreamed of joy departed
But a waking dream of life and light
Hath left me broken-hearted.
Ah! what is not a dream by day
To him whose eyes are cast
On things around him with a ray
Turned back upon the past?
That holy dream - that holy dream,
While all the world were chiding,
Hath cheered me as a lovely beam
A lonely spirit guiding.
What though that light, thro' storm and night,
So trembled from afar
What could there be more purely bright
In Truth's day-star?
