The Wine Thieves are an award-winning experimental hip hop duo. The group consists of producer/beatmaker and multi-instrumentalist, Party.picasso , and eclectic rapper, Emcee Hype . The duo has performed at Universities, Clubs, Coffee Shops, and—most notably—on the mtvU/Ea Games Rockband Tour.
The Wine Thieves draw on years of experience as musicians, with both members proficient in drums, guitars, keyboards and bass. Party.picasso’s stand-out, raw hip hop production on the MPC-2000XL have earned him critical acclaim in the underground music scene. Don Libido of New Orleans said, Party.Picasso’s beats “resemble something like Prince Paul and DJ Premiere collaborating with Bob Dylan and Danny Elfman for a French midget porn infomercial.†What more could you ask for? In addition, Hype’s rhymes have been compared to jazz music and even the slick, gravity-defying moves of famous male dancer, Nijinsky!
The Wine Thieves saw a music video for their song, “run.live.love†in rotation on mtvU. They were also chosen as mtvU’s Artist of the Week and went to the finals in mtvU’s Epic Record’s $1.5 million Record Deal Contest.
The Wine Thieves have currently finished thier new EP, 'SEX & CO.' (released off The Commune) & are already working on new tracks for their next project. They will be releasing the instrumentals & accapellas to 'Sex & Co.' very soon.
