Body: FULL CLIP Presents 300 The Mixtape
A review by Julian A Fowler for Elect PublicationsStaying true to the theme of the blockbuster movie, the mixtape 300 by Full Clip (a rhyme duo that consists of Deuce and A.P.) opens up ready for war. The title track alone invokes images of gladiators marching off to battle over a pulsating beat produced by A.P. As the duo drops stellar verses it is clear that this is more than simply a mixtape but it is setting the groundwork for a major event. That event being a mixtape created that offers chemistry, creativity, cohesion and concepts. The CD clocks in at 21 songs and a little over 72 minutes. However much like the epic movie, time is far from an issue here. You are completely entertained and immersed in the assortment of styles, punch lines, humor, metaphors and detailed narratives that are found prevalent throughout the mixtape. Tracks like “Cheap As Hell†will have you laughing as the dynamic duo trade verses about not squandering their fortune away and clown those who front at the expense of going broke. The conceptual track “One Mississippi†is a witty ode to sports that is sure to find a home in a ESPN broadcast if ever picked up. Lines like “….read the field like newslettersâ€, “….we about to get the ring like a wrestling mat†will have sports fans and weekend warriors far and near smiling from ear to ear. On one of the most unlikely of love songs, “Patienceâ€, we find Full Clip reaching out to the opposite sex about waiting on ‘relations’ over a jazzy beat also produced by A.P. Crooning by group member Deuce on the hook comes off natural enough to make this one of the most complete songs on the set. “Saying Goodbye†is another stand out track where we find Full Clip painting a vivid description of ghetto struggles. A strong hook by guest Dgoode, a notable vocalist, provides the back drop over a cinematic beat while Deuce and A.P. share stories with so much description and attention to detail, one feels like they are watching a documentary.Full Clip opens up the floor for many Trenton soldiers to join in on the fray this go round. Full Clip affiliate Alamaj drops a near show stealing verse on the bouncy “Trenton Bridgeâ€. Lines like “F--- your boyfriend, he nervous acting, because he use to have The Game like Curtis Jackson†makes the listener want to hear more from this up and comer. Big Ooh, PDoc, OZ and Day show up on “Cash Rules†to fully represent the movement with plenty of metaphors that will have you pressing the rewind button on your mp3 player. Everyone who makes an appearance on the mixtape keeps pace with the group and truly adds on to the overall project. From the angelic vocals of Artesha (Exit 7AP), to the sultry style of Mikael (Me and My B----), to the guest producers Skem (We in Here), Noble (5 Ways) and Longevity (Tear it Up).In the movie 300 the last battle may not have been victorious for Sparta immediately, but judging from the quality on this CD that will not be case for Full Clip. Sparta inspired generations to come. Full Clip has the star appeal to inspire generations right now with their brand of lyricism and showmanship. By the time the credits roll at the end you realize you have witnessed the emergence of a special rhyme duo that can hold their own against armies that are double their size.
