On Monday, March 4th, 2002 Harrisburg Fire & Rescue just finished putting away the water rescue gear from a vehicle in the river and sat down to lunch when communications put out a report of a house fire at 10334 Harrisburg Road. Upon the arrival of the Fire Department the house had heavy fire and smoke showing with people possibly trapped. The interior crew went into the side door and got about five feet into the doorway and decided to back out because the floor was "spongy" feeling. When Captain Brad Christopher reached to Firefighter Josh Earley to turn around and exit the building, they both fell into the basement. Captain Brad Christopher was able to grab the threshold of the door to pull himself out and help Captain James Greene and Firefighter Johnny Kiser pull Firefighter Josh Earley out. A second crew kept the flames off of Captain Brad Christopher, Captain James Greene, and Firefighter Johnny Kiser as they pulled him from the inferno. Firefighter Josh Earley was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center with burns that covered over 80% of his body. He was evaluated in the emergency room and airlifted to the burn center in Chapel Hill. Firefighter Josh Earley remained in critical condition until March 6th, 2002 when he succumbed to his injuries and passed away at the age of 23.________________________________________________Tracy Champion (49), LODD January 28,2006 for Philadelphia Fire Department, Engine- 54. Hage An 18 month member of the Wesley Chapel Volunteer Fire Department died Saturday afternoon after the fire truck he was driving was involved in an accident on Waxhaw-Indian Trail Road near New Town Road. Both the Wesley Chapel Volunteer Fire Dept (WCVFD) and the Waxhaw Fire Dept were dispatched at 4:26 pm to a near by elementary school for a fire alarm activation. Engine Company # 261 had only 1 firefighter on board when it was involved in a single vehicle rollover accident. A second WCVFD truck happened upon the scene within seconds only to find the fire truck rolled over on its side. Due to the nature of this accident it appeared that the firefighter died instantly.

________________________________________________CONCORD, N.C. -- The flag at the Cold Water Fire & Rescue is at half mast here in honor of a young firefighter killed while responding to an incident Monday.Firefighter James Earl Arthur, 19, was responding to a wreck when he lost control of his truck. The vehicle veered off the road and rolled, ejecting Arthur who was not wearing a seat belt.Arthur joined the fire department several years ago as a junior member. His father also volunteers at Cold Water, said Capt. Brian McDonald."He was head over heels for the fire department," McDonald said, adding that the young firefighter was energetic and dependable.Arthur was leaving work at a textile factory when he heard his department dispatched for a wreck. "People saw him turn on his lights. They knew he was headed to the call," McDonald said. But, he never made it.Since he wrecked in a nearby jurisdiction, his fellow firefighters were spared from having to respond to his crash.McDonald said it's been a rough day in Concord. But, the department has received calls from numerous firefighters offering support and words of comfort.A makeshift memorial with Arthur's turnout gear has been established at the base of the flagpole in front of the station. The building and apparatus have been draped with black cloths.

They would not have wanted us to call them heroes but in our eyes they are. The memories of these brothers will forever live on in the hearts of those who had the pleasure of serving with them.
