Whilst I am primarily a visual artist, having been a professional photographer since 1984, I also enjoy playing and listening to music. I play a variety of instruments including Wind-Synth, flutes and whistles.
During the past few years I have also started to experiment with VJ software (Arkaos), using keyboards and my wind-synth to trigger visual performances. I would be keen to meet up with artists from any genre that would like to experiment in this area.
My visual influences include: Gary Winogrand, Eugene Smith, Elliot Erwitt, Alexander Rodchenko, Jean-Pierre Jeunet, Sergi M Eisenstein, Jacqes Tati, Volker Schlondorff, Fritz Lang.
My musical influences are also pretty varied, including artists such as: Peter Gabriel, Weather Report, Bjork, Martin Carthy, Jan Garbarek, Debashish Bhattacharya, Yes, Lena Willemark & Ale Möller, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Shakti, Mercedes Peón, Ian Dury, Anouar Brahem, ELP, Lo’Jo, Clint Mansell, Richard Thompson, Sinead O'Conner.
At college I studied Documentary Photography and have worked as a freelance photojournalist and lecturer since 1984. Clients have included, BBC; Channel 4 Television; S4C; Greenpeace; The Economist; The Daily Mirror; The Independent; Newsweek Magazine and many others. A selection of my work is housed in the National Museum of Wales's permanent collection.
I also make videos. In 2001 I made a film of the World Playboating (Canoeing) Championships, using music from the Dhol Foundation and Mercedes Peón.
I am keen to work with other artists on Audio-Visual projects, an example of my work with Chapman Stick player, Dave Bowmer can be seen opposite. This piece has been show at various film festivals and exhibitions since it was created in 2004.
