The Gospel of Christ must be received by faith. You must believe that God the Father sent His only Son to live and die for those lost in their sins. He did this because of His great love. It is not His desire that anyone should perish, but that all sinners would turn from their sins and be saved. Although, God has given us the Ten Commandments and His written Word to live by, we must never fail to acknowledge the fact that we cannot save ourselves. The Bible says that we will be rewarded according to our good works, but that our good works cannot produce salvation. Obedience alone cannot save us. Charity alone cannot save us. Any righteousness that we can muster is as filthy rags to God. We must receive the righteousness of Christ and live in that Grace by Faith.
We must come to Him with the full acknowledgment that we are sinners who are unworthy of His forgiveness. Then we must receive by faith that Jesus paid the penalty of our sins, past, present and future. When we turn from our sins and turn to Jesus, we call Him “Lord.†As the new Lord of our life we must now lay down our will and submit to His will. We understand that we are now saved, are being saved, and shall be saved. This means that salvation is a process by which we must maintain what has been entrusted to us. Paul said, “Work out your own salvation with trembling and fear.†He was not teaching that you can produce your own salvation, but was saying that you have some work to do to maintain that salvation. Paul said that he “buffeted his body†to bring it under submission to the will of God. He told young Timothy that he had “fought the fight†and had “finished the race.†Salvation must be maintained by abiding in Christ and His Way of life.
The FIRST STEP to receive the Gospel is to acknowledge and believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that there is no salvation in any other name.
The SECOND STEP to receive the Gospel is to confess and repent of your sins.
The THIRD STEP is to ask God to forgive you.
The FOURTH STEP is to receive by faith that Jesus paid the penalty to forgive your sins.
The FIFTH STEP is to be baptized in the name of Jesus. (not excluding the Father and the holy spirit)
The SIXTH STEP is to have hands laid upon you to receive the holy spirit. To understand, and receive by faith that you are now in God’s grace and are freed from sins, past present and future, as long as you walk obediently before the Lord. Jesus, as your High Priest is ever at the Mercy Seat with His own righteous Blood interceding for you. Sin is no longer imputed to you unless you sin willfully on purpose. You are now justified in God’s sight, as if you had never committed a sin.
The SEVENTH STEP is to work out your salvation with fear and trembling by obeying the teachings of Jesus and His Apostles and by keeping the Ten Commandments. This means maintaining the gift of salvation through your faith in Grace by walking obediently before God.
