About Me

This layout was handmade with love by the folks at My space or yours? Go get one!
I was born and raised in the great state of Oregon. My husband and I met when we were teenagers, and have been together ever since. I worked as a travel agent for over 10 years, which allowed us to travel to so many different places (Central & South America, Canada, Caribbean, South Pacific). I left my travel career in 1999 to be a stay at home, ecclectic (semi unschooling) home schooling mom

We are trying to raise our children as compassionately as possible, meaning that we practice attachment parenting, and use positive discipline. We do not hit our children, or think that they are less of a person just because they are smaller. We show respect for each other and our environment, and are teaching them to think beyond themselves and to help others. Oh, and I try to live my life as "green" as possible, and pass this on to my children as well.
Our oldest daughter has been diagnosed with sensory processing disorder, ADHD and Asperger syndrome. Despite all of the challenges we have had, she is an amazing child. Both of my girls inspire me to be the best parent I can be.
We are not a religious family. We have all taken our own spiritual path. My husband is agnostic, my older daughter is leaning towards buddhism, and I am not sure what to call myself. I guess you could say I am spiritual, but not religious.
I became vegetarian in my early 20's, and both of our girls are vegetarian as well. Our main reason is to not take part in the suffering of animals, but also because of the health benefits, and because of the environmental impact of factory farming.

You Are a Liberal for Life
You've got a bleeding heart - and you're proud of it.
For you, liberal means being compassionate.
You believe in equality for every person, and you consider yourself universally empathetic.
Helping others is not just political for you ... it's very personal too. What's Your Political Persuasion? You Drink Republican Kool-Aid 0% of the Time! Congratulations, you do not drink the Republican Kool-Aid. You haven't been brainwashed and are able to think for yourself rather than get your daily marching orders from the right-wing media. Mindless submission to our leader has no place in America. You, sir or ma'am, are a patriot.
Do You Drink Republican Kool-Aid?

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

I have made it a little more difficult to add me, so if you don't know my last name or email, then send me a message as to why you want to be added, and I will most likely accept.
That said, I will add people with similar interests obviously, but I am open to anyone who is open minded, honest and non-judgemental. I would also like to meet other parents in my area, home schoolers, vegetarians, liberal minded people, parents with children on the spectrum, and any old friends that may be out there!
Past and present people I would like to meet: Bono, Buddha, Jimmy Carter, Jesus Christ, Stephen Colbert, The Dalai Lama, Al Franken, Phyllis Lei Furumoto, Ghandi, Al Gore, Chujiro Hayashi, John Holt, Alfie Kohn, Dennis Kucinich, John Lennon, Abraham Lincoln, Mother Teresa, Barack Obama, Anne Rice, John Robbins, Jon Stewart, Ben Stiller, Hawao Takada, Mikao Usui, Mohammad Yunus
