In 1996 a group of concerned vegans set up the Vegan Organic Network (VON). Our food, if non-organic, is grown with cruel, potentially harmful, eco-wrecking pesticides. Even organic food is usually grown and produced using slaughterhouse byproducts such as blood, fish, bone and manure, which the meat industry has been paid for. Yet most vegans do not want to subsidise the meat industry! VON is committed to stockfree farming, using only plant-based manures and techniques. Since 1996 VON growers and members have proved that growing cruelty-free, environmentally-friendly food is not only possible but sustainable and even enjoyable, not to mention delicious! There are so many good causes for vegans to support, and we don't have any cute pictures of puppies and kittens to grab your attention. What we are doing, however, is exposing one of the 'hidden' ways that the meat industry uses your money, and showing the way to change that.
