About Me

OCTOBER 2009:
New photography series on Flickr by Deborah Jaffe.
Join me for more adventures on FACEBOOK!
I've accepted the invitation to be a member of the Dada Action Group. I will be working with James Banner on some new recordings, art, and ideas. I've known James since we corresponded back in the 1980s and Dada has been a huge part of my life and my creative work for as long as I've been an artist. Both Jim and I draw much inspiration from Dada so it will be very interesting to see what we come up with! If you aren't familiar with it, please check out the Dada Action Group Myspace page.
About MSR:
What you thought was truth, wasn't. The imagination is a powerful thing. It causes us such undo stress and anxiety sometimes I think imagination should be made illegal. What did you think would happen? What did you think was real? What if I told you, you were all wrong? What if I was all wrong? The way things are, aren't. Yeah, that's how it is right now.
The wonderful playground of life. My wonderful playground is becoming clear to me. It's in front of me, presented to me on a silver platter, to begin to enjoy, and I can't forget for a moment that this is exactly where I belong. I feel alive there. I feel strong. I feel like myself. After all these years. All the doubt. All the denial. The tall buildings, the creativity, the energy, my whole life led up to this moment and who am I to deny this is where I belong? Who are you? You know who you are - and it is a real shame, yet I understand, even though I should not understand one fucking shred of any of it, I do.
I fly, I soar, I know. Everything has led up to this. I am ready. Ready to get on with what I am meant to do. Be where I am meant to be. Be the person I should have been 20 years ago, but wasn't.
What do I do here? Female industrial music and art by Master/Slave Relationship that throws caution to the wind and lets loose a barrage of sexual imagery, tension, and soundscapes from hell. A personal vision uniquely my own yet perhaps you can relate?
This project was created in 1984 by me Deborah Jaffe to explore themes of emotional domination and submission, sex, and self-inflicted emotional torture through extremely personal music lyrics, video, photography, and artwork.
I'm currently creating dark art, writing, and recording new music. If all goes well I will have a new MSR album by the end of 2009.
MSR is a one-person band. Sometimes shockingly sexual depictions of emotional erotic and sadomasochistic visions of personal hell. Crossing industrial music, art, and extreme sex imagery, thoughts and longings, this music isn't for the timid.
In 2008 I collaborated with the great Stefan Kozak and am very pleased to announce that I've become a member of The Skaden and Mystic Forest! His work as Mystic Forest and The Skaden is briliiant and I hope to see these releases come out sometime soon in 2009.
I'm concentrating my efforts on new music. Yes, it is true, I am recording new music now! I also love to create visual art. My style of choice is decidedly modern and certainly abstract, with an emphasis on dark abstract expressionism. I decided to make some of my work available in the form of limited edition signed giclee fine art prints.

Oblivious As Usual
I created Master/Slave Relationship (MSR) as, basically, a one-person industrial noise music, photographic, and art project, to explore my own interests in elements of industrial music and noise, self-inflicted emotional domination and submission, S&M, and extreme fetish themes. MSR has never performed live and never will. MSR was conceived primarily to express and explore my interests in extreme behavior and thought, obsession and the usual oblivion.
Prior to MSR, I did a little underground publication called 12 Seconds of Laughter and also created unusual music as Viscera with Hal McGee and together we founded Cause And Effect which was a cassette-only music mailorder and label from 1984 to 1988.
Since 1996 I've also owned and run the infamous extreme Black Metal label and mailorder, http://www.blackmetal.com , along with Elden M, releasing such bands as MYSTIC FOREST, EIKENSKADEN (The Skaden), MASSEMORD, SYKDOM, CURSE, VOND (Mortiis), EDM (Endless Dismal Moan/Japan), DEKAPITATOR, and more.
