Influences: gershwin, porter, davis, coltrane...... The Slippers play 1930’s music using the classic 1960’s instrumentation of 2 guitars, bass and drums. The strong material and signature guitar sound give The Slippers a chance to bring something new to tunes sometimes claiming to be swing revival but often overplayed with nostalgia or parody. The opportunity for the guitar and vocal to marry a dash of rhythm and blues with original swing tunes is a perfect example of the genius of songwriters like Porter, Gershwin, Rodgers and Hart, etc. Contrapuntal funk goes hand in hand with the smooth melodies and beautifully written lyrics. The overall feel of the Slippers sound is accessible and familiar because of the deliberate structuring of the arrangements and the use of 21st century technology.
