BIO:
Iciclan has gone through several changes, as a group and as an entity since it's inception.
The first gathering was under the name "Obire Pestis", and featured Zxorthyn on guitar, plus 2 other members filling the drum and vocal roles. This took place in the winter months of 2004, and the band worked towards a live incarnation which should have been in December that year- but just prior there was some inner turmoil which saw the band cease to be.
Over the early parts of 2005, Zxorthyn (as the songwriter) was unsure of how to proceed. So the music became comatose, until mid 2005 when a recording opportunity presented itself. Whilst the recording itself was never fully completed, a meeting with The Simulant ended in what would seemingly be a only temporary musical union. This was proven otherwise, as The Simulant became a permanent and vital member
At this juncture, Z decided to alter the name to Ice Eater- which was always his desire since first creation. The idea was to tell the story of an ancient beast, one who survived for centuries by obtaining a pure form of energy from huge shards of ice. This beast has a longer story, which is brought forth in the form of lyrics which accompany the music. So the bands name represented a basic human title given to the creature- its true name to remain a secret until the second album.
Ice Eater played its first show in July, 2005 - this was the one and only show with a nameless second guitarist, who was not connected to the fray. The bassist at that point - The Emptiness - was a distant but vital ally, and performed several shows with the band between its first show and mid-late 2006. After the initial show, the band performed as a 3 piece- which was never a desired situation. This was later rectified.
Just into the second quarter of 2006, the Simulant was recording under his common name with his other band. During this time, it was seen as a worthy use of time to lay the drums for the songs that Z had written. This was put in place, and shortly after the bands leader came in to lay all guitars, bass and vocals for the debut storytelling. This recording was to lay dormant for some time.
During mid 2006, the band was sought after to perform a couple of events. Some of the months prior to this moment, the band had not performed at all- but Z had come into contact with guitarist Synodic Invar. S I was like minded, and had the knowledge and connection required to enter the group. He began his training, and in mere weeks was a solid member. S I also knew of another, whose dedication was also of a high order- Novas-Losel. He began training as the bassist for the performance upcoming, with The Emptiness not available at that point in time.
This was to be the end of the association with The E.
So the new unit was created, one that is still very much in existence. A new presentation, and live experience was created from this- one much more conducive to the original desires.
The band has played several shows with this line up, and already Z has written 2 songs for a new recording- which was the most appropriate creations thus far.
In early 2007, a new and more appropriate name was sought- and after much thought, it was decided that Iciclan would be the permanent title for the group. It is a far more representative title, and its significance will also come to light on the second album.
The band recently opened for legendary swedish act Marduk on their Australian tour, the response was very positive and the band has already been sculpting plans for future ventures to the other Australian states.
The debut album "Frozen Dimensions" was released during the Marduk tour (officially on the 16th of August 2007), and is now available from the band or www.southernextremeties.com .
