About Me
In 1974 a group of studio musicians started playing five nights a week at a club called Mikell's on 97th street and Columbus Ave. in New York. "Don't look for it, it's not there any more." Originally called "The Encyclopedia Of Soul", they changed their name to "Stuff" around the time they signed with Warner Bros. records about 2 years later. The group was lead by bassist Gordon Edwards, and included guitarists Cornell Dupree and the late Eric Gale, drummers Chris Parker and Steve Gadd, and the late Richard Tee on piano and keyboards. While I hope this site will grow to include a history of the incredible music and the exciting scene that was created there, for now I will say that our band, which I am happy to say includes Stuff's original drummer Chris Parker, was formed to recreate this style of instrumental rhythm and blues. Our members are: Gary Sieger, guitar (Broadway shows: Wedding Singer, Brooklyn, Urban Cowboy.....recent recordings with Jason Robert Brown and Rob Arthur)Larry Saltzman, guitar, (recently toured separately with Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel, recorded on the Hairpray movie soundtrack, member of Wedding Singer orchestra)Keith Cotton , piano, (Associate conductor of Hairspray on Broadway, also co-produced recording on the new soundtrack, also plays with Joan Osborne.)Chris Parker, drums, (Stuff, Paul Butterfield, Laura Nyro, Brecker Brothers, Bob Dylan, Freddie Hubbard, Gladys Knight, Ashford and Simpson, Manilow, parkerdrum.com)Clint Deganon, drums (Hiram Bullock, Bob James, Art Garfunkel, Hairspray)Frank Canino, bass (toured with Ben E. King, Kid Creole, Hairspray, Smokey Joe's on Broadway, recorded with Cornell Dupree, Warne Marsh....)
