I am here for Serious Relationships

About Me

Dear Friend,
Welcome to the Del Rey Church myspace page. We are so glad that you found us. We have been waiting for you to drop by. It’s true, because we believe that every person who comes into the circle of this special fellowship was sent by God Himself.
It’s not by accident that we have the joy of meeting you. So, above all else we want to express Christ’s love to you with genuine, heartfelt warmth. We are eager to know you, and we’re excited to share with you the marvelous ways God is working in our church.
It won’t take you long to discover that this is truly a family, rich in the relationships that matter most. Growing together, we worship, we serve, we sacrifice for each other, we laugh, we cry, we learn, and we reach out to our world with life-transforming truth. We reach out to you, as well. Our doors are open. Our hearts are open, too. If you’ve been thinking, searching and hoping for a place to belong, we invite you to join us on a Sunday morning for church.
Love,
The Del Rey Church Family
P.S. To find out more about our church visit our website at www.delreychurch.com or better yet just visit us (8505 Saran Drive. Playa del Rey, CA 90293) and spend some more time getting to know us.
WHO WE ARE
On October 4, 1958 a group of about 100 people from the Los Angeles Evangelical Free Church sensed God’s leading to begin a new church in Playa del Rey, California. With a heavy burden on their hearts to show God’s love to this neighborhood, the group purchased this land we stand on today and held their first worship service on August 30, 1959. This work is still alive today as the next generation of believers have continued to believe that God deserves to be worshipped here and desires to reach out to the people of this community to show them how real He is and how amazing His loves is for us all.
What does it mean to be an “Evangelical Free Church”?
The Evangelical Free Church is an association of autonomous churches united by a mutual commitment to serve our Lord Jesus. The term 'evangelical' gets tossed around a lot these days and different people use it different ways. For us, we use the word in the biblical sense. Evangelical comes from a Greek word (the New Testament of the Bible was originally written in Greek) and it simply means good news. We use the word evangelize, meaning 'to tell others about Jesus' and that's why we call ourselves evangelical, because we enjoy sharing our faith. Now, this other word 'free' speaks about our local church and how it is governed. Free just means that it is self-governing and free from outside rule: however, we still belong to a larger body of churches for support, worship, resources, and shared beliefs.
Why does your church exist, what is your purpose?
First and foremost, we exist to bring glory to God. We believe that God receives glory when we worship and obey Him. In the Bible, God has given us our marching orders, which we refer to as the Great Commission (see The Bible, Matthew 28). This tells us that our purpose as a Church is to make disciples (that is, fully devoted learners or followers) who will in turn dedicate themselves by making disciples. Simply put, our purpose is to “make disciples, who make disciples” as a way of life to bring glory to God.
