One Autumn evening at a jam night at a pub in Staines, Graeme and Theo chanced upon each other and discovered a mutual love of old blues, especially Robert Johnson. The next logical step was to have a drink......... and then form a band !
Spillage was based around the duo of Graeme playing the instruments whilst Theo would sing and hit things. Always looking for extra musicians to supplement the line up for a bigger sound, a succession of drummers, bass players and others were tried, most applicants had problems with timing, commitment or not understanding the ideas that drove the band and none were right and almost throughout the four and a half year existence Spillage band remained a two piece.
Spillage recorded a three track EP, 'Down Home Counties Blues' in 2005 and then contributed a track to the Essex Delta Blues Vol II compilation CD in 2006 which earned them airplay as far away as Poland and Croatia. Spillage followed this up with their own CD release, 'Songs From The Green House' in 2007, though the band probably gave away more copies than they sold, the CD contained 8 original tracks and two covers from their extensive repatoire. In 2008 they discovered drummer Carys, who was the drummer they had always been looking for and Spillage got a little bit bigger and considerably louder.
Spillage gigged at various venues in Berkshire, Surrey, London and Essex and performed a set made up of originals, old blues, and adapted covers in their own minimalist styles. Apart from the shared interests in Blues each member brought influences from Punk, Folk, Rock and the Avant Garde that contributed to make up the Spillage sound.
In July 2008 Graeme decided it was time to do something else and called it a day. Graeme now Plays with Fair Faith (www.myspace.com/fairfaith), Carys went on to join Greymatter (www.myspace.com/greymatterlive) and Theo continues to harass the women of South East England.
