About Me

You may wonder what the purpose of this myspace. The purpose is to spread the word on the in-humane killings of whales around the world. Even though this is illegal, it is still happening. There are many countries are for it : Norawy, Denmark, Russia, Cambodia. But the most known, Japan. People around the world are mad at Japan for lying and saying that they kill whales for research. They need to find out the whales' diets and how old they are. However, many other scientists around the world have discovered there are non-lethal ways to find out this information. Also, the fleet that does the whaling is sponsored by some of the largest whale meat producers in the world. These companies say that whaling is a tradition in Japan. Many Japanese say this is a made-up tradition, just to make people from other countries to allow whaling. Most of the adult Japanese population does not eat whale or know what is happening to these beloved creatures.
The International Whaling Commission (IWC) laid down a monitarium, or a temporary ban on whaling. This ban is still in place. To remove the ban or any whaling law, the country that wants the switch has to get 75% of the vote. Since Japan cannot get that 75% normally, they have started somehting called the "vote consolidation program" commonly known as buying votes. They have gottn many countries to join there pro-whaling side.
One huge reason, why hundreds of people are fighting for whales, is the inhumane way people are killing whales. It can take up to half an hour for a whale to die. On average, 20% of Norways whale deaths are not instant. But for Japan, that percentage is 60. They do it in some of the most gruesome ways. They harpoon the whale, the harpoon carrying an explosive discharge that will go off when it is inside the whale. They will harpoon it as much as necissary, until it dies. The whole time the whale is being harpooned and hauled onto a ship it is struggling and losing a large amount of blood. The space around the whale is red. Once the whale dies it is hauled onto the ship and slaughtered.
Whales are not killed only killed by whaling. Whales often get entangled in commercial fishing nets and get hit by large boats (called ship striking). When hit by a large ship, any type of whale can become injured or die. When some part of a fishing net wraps around any type of whale, there is a large risk for serious injury. The fishing net could easily cut into the whale's skin while it is struggling, which could effect their eating and migrational habbits. The net may become attatched to the whales for weeks, months, or even years!! Oil spills and polution doesn't really hep either.
..This needs to be stopped. These whales do not deserve to die. PLEASE make a donation to some of the organizations we listed in our blogs. Or just tell some one you know. Form a club, start a protest, become invoved. We will keep in contact. Please tell your friends about this myspace so they can learn what these whales are going through. It is time to save them. Thank you
p.s if you are wondering who's Migaloo (hence the display name) please check our blogs for updates. Thanks again
