About Me

Gosh...I'm all over the place. I like to keep my life as up-in-the-air and unplanned as possible...and then complain about how I never have any time or get anything done. Going to foreign countries on a whim is my ultimate thrill. I'm sorta on this broadcast track...I started working at a news station and now its a magnet...I never leave despite the fact that I work for free. So who knows, you might see me on tv some day...reporting from some remote little village on the other side of the world. For clarification on the religion category, I'm a Baha'i. If you don't know what that is, ask me. Just don't ask me where I "found" it. I was raised a Baha'i :)
I got this snazzy layout from whateverlife.com!

My Interests

I am becoming a fanatic about traveling. I've been outside the country twice, to Israel and the Czech Republic. My next overseas trip is going to be next spring/summer (Ireland,England, the Czech Republic, hopefully Uganda and Germany). But besides those huge trips I love getting in the car and going anywhere for any reason...or no reason at all. Yay for roadtrips! I tried to knit, I can't really paint or anything...and I'm fairly lazy...so not too many traditional hobbies. Oh, and (yeah, I know I'm a dork)...

I'd like to meet:

Paul Newman & Joanne Woodward, Margaret Mitchell (my role model...best feminist ever and a journalist to boot!), my Great-Aunt Aki (she's the reason my parents got together), and Amelia Collins (my namesake).

Music:

Any and everything...I'm always up for listening to new bands/artists.

Movies:

Well, Gone With the Wind...duh. I like some other classics too: Giant, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Captain Blood, The White Sister, and Pillow Talk. Musicals are the best cause I can sing along (completely out of tune, of course)...Moulin Rouge, Phantom of the Opera, My Fair Lady, and Funny Girl (Omar Sharif, you own my soul). I have to say, I like this fantasy kick...Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Chronicles of Narnia. And, despite the fact that I'm an "adult"...Peter Pan and Alladin.

Television:

Heroes, Desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy, Ugly Betty, and my guilty pleasure for six years running...Passions.

Books:

Hey look! Gone With the Wind again! But, yes, I have read many other books. Oh, and people who put Cosmo and Vogue in this section lower my belief in human intelligence. I like a lot of classics...the Great Gatsby, A Tale of Two Cities, The Scarlett Letter, and The Virginian. And after hearing my friends talk about the Wheel of Time series for the past year...I finally started...And books I DON'T LIKE...Faulkner...oh God, never ever again. There is nothing worse than As I Lay Dying. I am ashamed that he is considered a god among southern authors.

Heroes:

People who are genuine and unafraid of what the world will think of them. And my Czech friends....not the natives, the nice normal Baha'i youth at the program. I miss them so much I'm counting down till next year..

Fuckin shit

If I were Snow White, I'd be at that part of the movie where she's running through the woods and all the trees are clawing at her.  As I was making that analogy, I realized that Snow White didn't...

I think what I like best about love is that it's different for everyone.  I think there's love at first sight, learning to love, etc...  It all exists and it's anybody's guess which kind eac...

Three more papers and one more presentation.  That's it.  Then this wretched awful semester is over. I tend to this: at the end of a really busy semester, when I really don't have the time I...

So I'm reading this book that gives the sociological explanation for how Christianity became the "top dog" as far as religions are concerned in such a historically short time.  And in the chapter...

Disillusionment.  I used to think my parents were these beacons of morality.  My daddy was a superhero and my momma was the most caring woman ever born. My bad, it turns out they are in fact...

creep on in

Isn't it funny the way old memories can just pop out of nowhere and suddenly be EVERYWHERE?  I was talking to a friend last night and ended up telling him about a relationship this summer.  ...
