Graduated from University of Derby in 2000 and joined Jacks Shed Artists collective. Eventually lured by the big city lights and moved to London to do an MA in 2003 at Central St. Martins.
My work is often architectural in the sense that i'm interested in the built environment. Im interested in how we experience the buildings and spaces we pass through and exist within. I'm interested in how our immediate environment remains in perpetual flux, the function and use of a specific site and our direct interaction with it. I'm interested in the derelict, the redeveloped and the in-between sites. I try to avoid being metaphorical and generally aim to use what already exists within a space and its surroundings. My working methodology regularly exploits repetition as a means of allowing something else, another meaning, to emerge. I often set myself limitations (of materials, views, space). I'm interested in regimented systems and aleatoric processes. My work has taken the form of site specific drawings / 3D structures, Sculpture, Film and Video, Animation.
Im fascinated by WWII pillboxes. I am the founding member of LOOKOUTPOST and set up THE LOOKOUTPOST PROJECT...an ongoing curatorial project based at www.lookoutpost.co.uk with over 90 artists taking part nationwide. As LOOKOUTPOST I have co-curated, with Helen Morse Palmer, three major public exhibitions at Sydenham Hill Wood, SE London in collaboration with London Wildlife Trust (see the LOOKOUTPOST website for more details).
