Colorful and virtuous performer with brilliant and elegant appearance - that’s how one of the most gifted Canadian cellists, Velitchka Yotcheva is described by the critics and the audience.Velitchka Yotcheva’s bouquet of passionate performance, perfect technique and rich repertoire, covering Baroque, Classical and Modern composers, is what makes her concerts and records highly appreciated by the music lovers and the critics worldwide.Velitchka Yotcheva was born in Bulgaria where she took private lessons with Bulgarian cellist Tacho Tachev. After winning two competitions in her native Bulgaria, she entered the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow at age 18, where she studied with Valentin Feigin and Marina Tchaikovskaya, who was an assistant to Mstislav Rostropovich, and chamber music with Alexander Korchagin, a member of the Shostakovich Quartet. She completed her master's degree in 1992, followed by a doctoral degree in 2000 at the University of Montreal, where she studied under Yuli Turovsky. Since 1995, Velitchka Yotcheva has made Canada her home, using it as a perfect basis for her concert, recording and teaching engagements worldwide.Velitchka Yotcheva’s creativity and love for music make her not only a great artist, but an inspired teacher of talented students in Canada and USA; an artistic director of The Montreal Chamber Music Society and a founder and director of Trio Rachmaninoff de Montreal, with whom she has extensively toured Europe and the USA. The Trio has successfully participated in prestigious festivals and music series in Canada, USA, Europe and South America. Recently, the Trio toured Tahiti (French Polinesya), where the audience was thrilled by the stylish, virtouous and charming performers.The long list of Velitchka Yotcheva’s activities and achievements does not end here - it only begins now. Her confession is simple and honest:
