About Me

DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT HUGH LAURIE, JUST A HUGE FAN OF HIS MUSICAL AND ACTING WORK.
Hugh Laurie was born on the 11th of June 1959 in Oxford. Brought up in Oxford, he attended the Dragon School and later went on to Eton and then Selwyn College, Cambridge. At Cambridge, he achieved a Blue taking part in the 1980 Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race, a race that Cambridge lost by 1.5m. After suffering from glandular fever, Hugh was forced to abandon rowing and joined the prestigious Cambridge Footlights. Here, he met Emma Thopson and Stephen Fry. During his final year at university, Hugh became president of the Footlights, with Emma Thompson as vice-president.
During the 1980s and 1990s Hugh and Stephen worked together on various projects. Among them were the Blackadder series; their BBC sketch series, A Bit of Fry and Laurie; and Jeeves and Wooster. Hugh's later film appearances include Sense and Sensibility (1995), 101 Dalmations (1996), Maybe Bayby (2000), Girl from Rio, the 2004 remake of The Flight of the Pheonix, and the three Stuart Little Films.
In 1996, Hugh's first novel, The Gun Seller was published and became a best seller. He is currently working on his second novel, The Paper Soldier.
In 2004 Hugh first starred as the sarcastic Dr Gregory House in the hit FOX medical drama House. This role has earned him two Golden Globe Awards and he is now a household name in America.
Hugh lives in London with his wife and three children. He can play the piano, guitar, drums, harmonica and saxophone, and is a co-founder of the Los Angeles rock group The Band From TV. In 2007 he was awarded an OBE for his services to drama.
