I'm originally from Wauwatosa, Wisconsin; it means firefly. I chose to live in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Even without really knowing where on Earth the former is, it explains a lot about who I am.
I love to listen to/dance to/write/think about/perform music; any idiom, so long as I can learn from it, and have fun getting into it. That, in addition to my love of reading, cooking and a good ol' fashioned adventure explain everything that music (and Wauwatosa) can't.
I think contrast and vulnerability are what make things beautiful; that's what makes art, more specifically music, so incredible. That for a short period of time, a group of people allow themselves to be affected by something that isn't of their own device. We allow ourselves to be outwardly joyful or miserable or sexy or scared- unabashed and fragile- we let down our guard for art, and in doing so, we grant ourselves the capacity to be moved. It sounds stupid on a myspace page, but think about the first time you heard 'A Love Supreme,' or 'Lush Life.' On the other hand, just playing to play, and havin' a great time is what its all about.
I want to tell stories. I want to tell them with honesty and clarity. I want to take all the knowledge that my incredible teachers, my friends, my records have given me, and realize it. I want to you to enjoy my music, but i'd rather you feel something, anything, whatever you need to feel. Mostly though, I want to talk to you.
I'm still learning, and I fail sometimes, pretty miserably, in fact. But I'm growing, even if at first only as slowly as a mountain.
This is pretty portentious, sorry about that. I'm nobody special, but I meant it all. Suggestions for revision welcome.
