Seasons of our Salvation
I lay watching the new snow falling. Covering my yard flake by flake. I watch as it makes my yard beautiful again. All the unfinished projects that I never had time to complete. All the ugly things that I have grown tired of seeing. I soon realized that all the yards in the city were covered the same as mine. It is so peaceful and relaxing.
The same is true with the salvation of Jesus. He will take our sins and cover them one at a time. All of the sins and hatred and bitterness that make our lives ugly, He will cover with His blood and make beautiful. He will take all the worries and frustrations out of our lives. We know they are there, but when covered by the snow of His forgiveness they seem so much less imposing.
Soon, the snow will melt and the new life of spring will begin to emerge. Bursting out of the ground with a fresh new green. Blooming from the branches of the trees that looked dead. Before long, the snow covered yards will be replaced by rich new colors that are inspired by the months of snow melting into the earth.
When we begin walking with Jesus, our new life begins. New thoughts begin to form and we become excited with all the great wonders that are shown us by the Spirit. We tell our friends, our families and those close to us of His greatness. It is more than we can hold in. Our happiness springs forth from the dead branches of our former life inspired by the new life that was given to us by Our Lord.
As spring gives in to summer, the new life matures. It becomes full and green. The excitement of the new gives way to acceptance and expectation of the beauty of nature. Life is everywhere at once. Playing, laughing, and loving. The warmth of the sun shines on my face and reminds me how much I enjoy the summer. I never want it to end. The winter was great, but the summer… Oh, how I love the summer.
The excitement of the new spiritual things settles in and becomes common. We learn to expect from the Lord. We bask in His glory and take all that He has to offer. His greatness shines down on us, and we love it. It is not long before we begin to forget that not long before, this was all new life to us. We never want it to end… we never want to get out of the Glory of God.
A few short months pass, and autumn comes. The life of summer begins to slow. The skies get a little gloomy and dark. The brightness of the flowers fades and they begin to die. The leaves of the trees turn color as if to make one last stand for beauty before they finally give up and fall to the ground. The signs of life become harder to find. The cold winds drive me into the house. All the things I meant to get done in the nice weather get left unfinished. Once the leaves fall completely from the trees, their beauty is gone. It seems they are dead. The grass turns brown as the final thoughts of a summer wasted run through my mind.
We spend our time as Christians doing all the things we want. Before long, our love and zeal begins to fade. Our excitement dies off. The beauty of our salvation becomes less apparent. The fruits of our faith begin to fall. Those who look at our lives watch in wonder as it seems we are dying spiritually. As our faith fades, the thoughts of all we should have completed in our walk with God revisits our minds.
This is our Daily Journey.
Each night, we lay our burdens on Jesus. Repent of our sins and seek guidance for living.
Each morning, we begin our new day with hope and promise. With the joy and excitement of a new day.
Each afternoon, we settle into our routine. Doing what must be done and enjoying the great things in life.
Each evening, we lament over the things that didn’t get accomplished. The missed chance to share the gospel. The bad example we set. The time of anger when we lost control.
How much better to live for Jesus all day?
How much better to never have the night fall on our Christian Walk?
How much better to live our Life with Christ in perpetual summer?
The winter covers the mistakes of the autumn. The spring brings new life. But, the summer is when we truly live.
