N.A.I.M.A.© is an acronym for Naturally Alluring In Mainstream America.N.A.I.M.A.© is a social circle and by no means obligatory in nature. As women, we have enough obligations without HAVING to divide our time further.The Birth of N.A.I.M.A.© I started having “contractions” when a coworker made an unknowledgeable assumption about my hair. The “labor pains” (anger, surprise) persisted throughout the day until finally, I was rushed to the “delivery room” (aka the ladies room) by the fire that burned in my gut at how people found my hair to be such a hot topic, yet didn’t know how to express it constructively. After doing my “lamaaze/breathing exercises” (aka collecting my emotions), the concept of a local social circle for women embracing their natural hair was born, right there in the restroom in the Sears Tower.What’s in a name? The name came to me the following week when a different coworker asked me about the amount of time I have to spend on my hair every day. After realizing that neither of these comments came from a place of malice, I decided to let it all go. It was at that moment, however, that I felt a strong urge to be around people that understood my passion for embracing who God made me to be.What’s the purpose of N.A.I.M.A.©? I’d like to create an environment where women of all ages can get together and vent our hair frustrations, as well as offer advice, encouragement and support. A place where we celebrate each other’s hair victories, hear tips from guest speakers, or just meet some new groovy chicks in your area that share the same hair philosophy! A place where WE define our beauty.How often do you get together? Socials will be held once a month at various locations, hence, my requests for your email addresses.They will consist of nappy tales, helpful links, informative books, networking and an overall good time!Though non-obligatory in scope, I’d love for you come out and share your stories or be fed by the experiences of others.Miracles & Blessings,N.A.I.M.A.-----Defining Our Beauty!
