The Pulse Prophets are an original socially conscious Groovemachine that really knows how to get the party jumpin'!
Their influences include: Bob Marley, Spearhead, and the Talking Heads to name a few.
The Pulse Prophets sound is an organic and celestial fusion of Funk, Reggae, Hip Hop, Latin, and Afro-beat, with a touch of Electronica.
Their mission: to elevate your mind and shake your behind!
Elijah Kraatz (vocals, guitar) - A singer, guitarist, and songwriter for sixteen years; Elijah honed his skills on the streets of San Francisco and Berkley, California. He has performed both solo, in the folk arena, and as the front man in several bands.
Some of these bands include: Gas Planet, Jeffersons Starfish, the Global Hillbilly Ensemble, and Old Jawbone. The latter of which released two well received CDs: Roots and Branches, and Sounds Universal ([email protected]).
Combining all he has learned from past experience, Elijah emerges with his latest manifestation to bring you the power of thoughtful songwriting, soulful vocals, and innovative booty-shaking grooves!
Rudy (guitar, harmony vocals) - Based in northern Vermont, Rudy has played professionally for 15 years. He has a B.A. from Johnson State College's jazz/commercial program. Rudy also plays lead guitar and bass in the following bands: OU Kidd, adult contemporary rock, Ekis, pop/world, and the High Rollers, wedding band. Rudy's solo musical influences are from The Band, Beatles, Neil Young, Bluegrass, Leo Kottke & Jorma Kaukonen.
Over the years he has recorded and toured regionally with Vermont artists Cool Rules, Squagmyre, Robin Gottfried, and most notably, recording two albums and touring nationally with the Gordon Stone Band. Rudy works a day job for one reason only, to support his music habit.
Andric Severance (keys) - Andric Severance started banging on the piano when he was a kid. He geeked out for a number of years, practicing more than was probably good for him. He played with some bands in Vermont like Sauce, the High Flying Gargoyles, the Lamoifle County Rowdy Redneck Blues Review, and Old Jawbone.
He traveled to Brazil in search of rhythms. He moved to New York City for Jazz and Salsa and intensity. He plaved Latin jazz and salsa with Mata Buena and CU2, and Afro-beat with Kokolo. As a bandleader he worked with many of the Citys finest young Jazz musicians. He taught children to play music. Back in Vermont now, his home, he plays music with the Pulse Prophets, The Andric Severance Trio, Conjtmto Consolador, and the San Gordon Band.
Rory Loughran (drums, harmony vocals) - Rory has been playing drums since age ten. He has performed with various Burlington and Boston area groups including Up, Down and Strange, Little Man Big Man, The Network, Dwight Ritcher Band, The Bell Tower Trio, Sheffer Stephens, Incremental Balance, and more.
His style stems from a wide range of influences from jazz greats like Jack Dejohnette and Elvin Jones, to Led Zeppelin's Jon Bonham, MMW's Billy Martin, Ringo of the Beatles, and many more. Rorys playing philosophy is that &groove& comes before all else.
Rory currently plays in the following bands: Up, Down and Strange, Pulse Prophets, The Skinx, The Andric Severance Group, and Ringbone. Rory teaches drums and percussion at the Vermont Independent School of the Arts in Sharon, VT. When not working, Rory enjoys off-grid living in his cabin in Brookfield, VT.
JP Candelier - In need of a guitarist for his junior high school band, Rory insisted that his friend J.P. should play guitar instead of drums. J.P. began his music studies thanks to Rory's suggestion and his gift of a Sears guitar. In high school, J.P. was moved to switch to bass after discovering Jaco Pastorius.
After studying jazz, funk and hip hop, J.P was increasingly drawn to world music.
He has since garnered attention for his agile bass work with Malian Kora player Balla Tounkara, whose band mingles traditional African songs with Cuban themes and funk rhythms. He has also performed with the Bell Tower Trio, One Flight Up, and Senegalese master drummer Ibrahima Camara's Safal.
