Duane Large has always been drawn to the masters in music. Music is music. The style or genre doesn't matter. Duke Ellington said there are two types of music: good music and bad music. That couldn't be more true.
Duane tries not to sound like any one band or person; however, recent bands such as the Decemberists, and the Postal Service capture the essence of what makes a good song. Of course, Bob Dylan is iconic in this regard. He cannot go unrecognized.
His other infuences include Aimee Mann, Alison Krauss, The Beatles, J.S. Bach, L.v Beethoven, Bob Marley, Chris Thile, The Clash, David Bowie, Elvis Costello, Jim Croce, Modest Mouse, The New Pornographers, Nirvana, Pink Floyd, Pixies, Radiohead, The Shins, Simon and Garfunkel, Smashing Pumpkins, Steely Dan, Stevie Wonder, Stiff Little Fingers, The Sundays, Talking Heads, Van Morrison, and Weezer.
Sounds Like: Duane's skillful guitarwork coupled with witty yet poignant lyrics create an organic sound unto its own. The simple, concise song is Duane's goal as a songwriter. The best songs are the simplest songs; a good song will stand on its own with just a voice and harmonic support (guitar, piano, etc.). Although a good orchestration can enhance a song, without it the essence of the song should still shine through.

Vocals suck

Recording vocals is the absolute hardest thing to do! I have no problem recording any of the instruments I've played for this CD project, but vocals are so damn hard. I could easily spend all day on...
