About Me

It all started for Selena answering phones at 6am on a Saturday morning at Choice FM. She would have done anything to get her foot in the door. And she did! She regularly assisted Chris Nat & the Crazy Crew.It wasn't long before she turned into a member of the Crazy Crew, became the lead Crew member and then went on to co - host Saturday Drive with Chris Nat. Radio soon had an extra injection of an infectious, youthful personality. Selena's career began. Not long after, Selena's talents were spotted by Radio Presenter / DJ & CEO of Urbanstar - Steve Wren. "You've got a right gob on ya darling . Exactly what I need to keep 500 DJ's in line!" They were the words that started a fantastic partnership and moved Selena's career into the business world of Music! Steve took her under his wing and shared his 20 years of valuable experience during the training process and can still be described as her mentor till this day. She continued to study whilst working part time in running the Radio & Club Promotion Dept. at Urbanstar Records. From Promotions to Marketing Manager to Label Manager - All in 18 months!Selena's highlights and experience's at Urbanstar included working on and managing Iceberg Slimm, the Urbanstars Compilation range, records from the likes of Romina Johnson, Charlie Wilson and of course the unforgettable 'Club Anthem' - Dazz Band 'You Are My Starship'! Alongside her work at Urbanstar, she did a range of Urban PR Consultancy. Clients included Island Records where she worked on the like of Mary J Blige, P Diddy & Amy Whinehouse to name a few.Keeping the PR in her alive was the key to Selena's success as this resulted in the launch of her own venture - Optimistic PR, a Radio Promotion & Urban PR Company. Optimistic PR is the only company out there that offers intense focus on setting up urban records. “I believe it is very important that new records, whether by established or new artists receive the care and attention they deserve, in order for them to maximize their full potential!”While all of this was moving at 200mph, Selena never forgot her true love, which is Radio! She transferred to assist Steve Wren on Club Vybez and spent quite a while working behind the scenes before her opportunity came. Selena's ClubVybez Club Guide was born, which grew to be a regular listen for many clubbers and music lovers!January 2006 saw Selena become the official co host of Club Vybez with Steve Wren (Saturday’s 9 – Midnight) along with Djing on rotation with Choice FM Guest DJ’s (Saturday’s & Sunday’s 3 – 6am). 2006 went from strength to strength for her when she was short listed in June for the Arqiva Commercial Radio Awards for the Arqiva / Skillset Radio Presentation Newcomer of the Year! She was then given the opportunity to host the Soulful Sunday Brekkie show from 6 - 9am and the year ended on a high for Selena when she was nominated for the Best Radio Show at the UK Asian Music Awards.Early 2007 saw Selena add another show to her potfolio... She became the host of the Early Riser on Choice FM, weekdays 2 - 6am. Her Whatson Guide had now grown to the next level where it was also a podcast. Then things got really interesting!!!In September, Selena was headhunted by Radio 1 in Dubai... She saw the opportunity and sold up in London and relocated to Dubai! She has just arrived and is setting up but will keep you posted on exactly what she is doing out there!
