Help clean Abersochs' beaches!!!!

About Me

If you like using the beach

for sunbathing
boating
surfing
walking the dog
general leisure
you should start thinking about helping to maintain it.
At the moment we are fighting a losing battle against the pollution which is destroying the beach and its wildlife. Without the help of everyone who uses the beach, pretty soon our beaches will be too dirty to use.

So if you want to keep the beaches looking like this Then keep reading! The beach user clean up scheme is an idea created by SAC (Sustainable Abersoch Cynaladwy). This group is made up of volunteers and was set up to try and tackle local environmental issues. Our aim is to try to keep the the beaches in North Wales clean! Marine litter is a big environmental, economic and aesthetic problem, it travels over long distances on ocean currents and winds and is deposited on the beach. Not only is litter an eyesore, spoiling the beauty of the sea and coastal zone and contaminating the beach, it has many other seen and unseen effects. The litter kills many forms of marine life, with suffocation, entanglement and starvation being the main threats.

Images such as the ones above are not nice to look at but they are common. The majority are also completely preventible! All we are asking is for a little of your time to help save the beaches so that everyone can enjoy them

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

People who are willing to help! If people donate a small part of their time to help us clean our beaches we can make them a better environment for us all to enjoy. We are planning a number of group beach cleans but even if people cannot attend you can still help to clean up the beach. When you use the beach for any kind of activity, take a bag along with you and pick up as much litter as you can and deposit it in the bin compound provided YOU USE THE BEACH, SO DO YOUR BEST TO HELP KEEP IT CLEAN please remember that we are only asking for litter to be picked up such as plastic and cans. If you see any sharp objects, sanitary waste, needles/syringes, weapons or unexploded bombs please dont pick it up. Mark the area with sticks or stones and call the following number 01286 679 456 to contact the services manager of the maritime unit of Gwynedd council next beach clean 23rd June Porth Ceiriad!
