SITO DEDICATO ALLA FILOSOFIA DI SAN FRANCESCO.San Francesco d'Assisi nacque ad Assisi nel 1182 ca. e morì nel 1226. Giovanni Francesco Bernardone, figlio di un ricco mercante di stoffe, istruito in latino, in francese, e nella lingua e letteratura provenzale, condusse da giovane una vita spensierata e mondana; partecipò alla guerra tra Assisi e Perugia, e venne tenuto prigioniero per più di un anno, durante il quale patì per una grave malattia che lo avrebbe indotto a mutare radicalmente lo stile di vita: tornato ad Assisi nel 1205, Francesco si dedicò infatti a opere di carità tra i lebbrosi e cominciò a impegnarsi nel restauro di edifici di culto in rovina, dopo aver avuto una visione di san Damiano d'Assisi che gli ordinava di restaurare la chiesa a lui dedicata.Il padre di Francesco, adirato per i mutamenti nella personalità del figlio e per le sue cospicue offerte, lo diseredò; Francesco si spogliò allora dei suoi ricchi abiti dinanzi al vescovo di Assisi, eletto da Francesco arbitro della loro controversia. Dedicò i tre anni seguenti alla cura dei poveri e dei lebbrosi nei boschi del monte Subasio. Nella cappella di Santa Maria degli Angeli, nel 1208, un giorno, durante la Messa, ricevette l'invito a uscire nel mondo e, secondo il testo del Vangelo di Matteo (10:5-14), a privarsi di tutto per fare del bene ovunque.Tornato ad Assisi l'anno stesso, Francesco iniziò la sua predicazione, raggruppando intorno a sé dodici seguaci che divennero i primi confratelli del suo ordine (poi denominato primo ordine) ed elessero Francesco loro superiore, scegliendo la loro prima sede nella chiesetta della Porziuncola. Nel 1210 l'ordine venne riconosciuto da papa Innocenzo III; nel 1212 anche Chiara d'Assisi prese l'abito monastico, istituendo il secondo ordine francescano, detto delle clarisse. Intorno al 1212, dopo aver predicato in varie regioni italiane, Francesco partì per la Terra Santa, ma un naufragio lo costrinse a tornare, e altri problemi gli impedirono di diffondere la sua opera missionaria in Spagna, dove intendeva fare proseliti tra i mori.Nel 1219 si recò in Egitto, dove predicò davanti al sultano, senza però riuscire a convertirlo, poi si recò in Terra Santa, rimanendovi fino al 1220; al suo ritorno, trovò dissenso tra i frati e si dimise dall'incarico di superiore, dedicandosi a quello che sarebbe stato il terzo ordine dei francescani, i terziari. Ritiratosi sul monte della Verna nel settembre 1224, dopo 40 giorni di digiuno e sofferenza affrontati con gioia, ricevette le stigmate, i segni della crocifissione, sul cui aspetto, tuttavia, le fonti non concordano.Francesco venne portato ad Assisi, dove rimase per anni segnato dalla sofferenza fisica e da una cecità quasi totale, che non indebolì tuttavia quell'amore per Dio e per la creazione espresso nel Cantico di frate Sole, probabilmente composto ad Assisi nel 1225; in esso il Sole e la natura sono lodati come fratelli e sorelle, ed è contenuto l'episodio in cui il santo predica agli uccelli. Francesco, che è patrono d'Italia, venne canonizzato nel 1228 da papa Gregorio IX. Francis's father, angry for the changes in the personality of his/her/their child and for his/her conspicuous offers, he/she disinherited him/it; Francis undressed then of his/her rich suits in front of the bishop of Assisi, elected by Francis I umpire of their controversy. It devoted the three following years to the care of the poor men and the lepers in the woods of the Subasio mountain. In 1219 it brought him in Egypt, where he/she preached in front of the sultan, without however to succeed in converting him/it, brought then him in Earth Saint, remaining you up to 1220; to his/her return, it found dissent among the monks and it discharged him from the charge of superior, devoting himself/herself/itself to what would have been the third order of the Franciscan ones the tertiary ones. Withdrawn him on the mountain of the Verna in September 1224, after 40 days of fast and suffering faced with joy, it received the stigmates, the signs of the crucifixion, on whose aspect, nevertheless, the sources don't arrange.
Francis was brought to Assisi, where he remained for years marked by the physical suffering and by an almost total blindness, that didn't weaken nevertheless that love for God and for the creation express in the Hymn of monk Alone, probably composed to Assisi in 1225; in it the Sun and the nature are praised as brothers and sisters, and the episode is contained in which the saint sermon to the birds. Francis, that is patron of Italy, was canonized in 1228 by pope Gregorio IX. You/he/she is often represented in the traditional iconography in the action to preach to the animals or with the stigmates.
