MANTECA

Latin Grooves & Boogaloo

About Me

Formed by vibrant Colombian singer Martha Acosta and bass guitarist/MD Don Fiora (Javier Fioramonti) for the Hogmanay festival in Edinburgh 2001. Manteca proved to be at the cutting edge of the Latin scene, leading over 3,000 people at the World Music Stage "salsa-ing" into the New Year to their unique style of Urban Latin Funk. Since then Manteca is well known for creating a party mood at festivals and gigs all around, including Coin St. Festival London, Rhythms of the City festival Leeds,Ecorhythms Festival and many more.

ROCK'N'REEL: “Tremendo Boogaloo” Freestyle Records FSRCD020. "Manteca are a different kettle of fish, their Tremendo Boogaloo sounding lean and hungry in its desire to entertain. Opening track ‘De Todo’ serves as a heady introduction to therir rhytm-heavy amalgamamation of latin music, Jazz, funk and soul. With the distinctive vocals of frontwoman Martha Acosta Taking things to a higher plain, Fuego, infectious ‘Muchacha’ and ‘Pa’lante alongside the effortless cool of ‘Guajira’ manage, with the minimum of fuss, to crown an impassionaed and celebratoty atmosphere. Steve Caseman"

SOFTLY RECORDS “Tremendo Boogaloo” Freestyle Records FSRCD020. "Storming follow up to their debut 7" single Tremendo Boogaloo" from the London based latin musicians of group Manteca , with two more infectious latin burners for Freestyle Records. Both the title track and the more favoured 'Fuego' are taken from there debut cd 'De Todo',and feature the enigmatic Colombian singer Martha Acosta alongside a heavy rhythm section and some weighted horn contributions."
