Applecore EP Review - Sept 2007
The title track "Applecore" is itself built from dark surging waves of bass underscoring the brilliantly chopped drums. It rises and falls without ever losing its momentum, giving at times to subtle haunted melodies before coming harder than Phil Mitchells minders.
This is real new skool - intricate, progressive, atmospheric jungle - imagine a futuristic remix of a 90's Nookie tune.
The Enduser Mix is very different. Drums scrape underneath the sheets of bass, the rhythm takes more twists & turns than an insomniacs duvet. The track itself trips & stumbles without losing its groove, still making it interesting listening. It gets close to drum & bass but using much broader, louder kicks it never falls into the obvious metronome dnb trap.
Jonny3snares' strength is the way his constantly moving, flowing sharp drum cuts working against thick elektro bass & laced with delicate melodies, while not making these different sounds clash they belong together - working different tempos and textures without losing his own sound, all these tracks are proof that working alone without a direct scene around him creates a sound that is truely individual.
Bottom line this is what real innovatve music sounds like. Listen dont copy.
