Bryan started at the late age of 17 when the curiousity of actually hitting drums rather than tables and chairs became to much. Always striving to learn, he quickly acquired some knowledge, starting from the YODA of drumming MARK CHARTERS and a wide variety of influences including VINNIE COLAIUTA, DAVE WECKL, SIMON PHILLIPS, ALEX VAN HALEN AND FRANK CELENZA (oh yes!). Playing along to these guys music jumpstarted it all and helped to create the style of drumming and music sense that this guy enjoys. Its not all about the chops, its about GROOVE (and occasional chops...heh heh). Time is of importance for this sticksman and time he will give.
Soon enough gigs started flowing, starting from a pre-school Christmas play in 1995, Bryan embarked on a journey which to this day continues to grow in profile. Since that first gig, Bryan had been involved in various free-lance work (studio and live) including albums for such artists as THE CHRIS BAX THEORY (including co-production role), ELENI and CHRISSE FEROS . You can also see/hear him in recording sessions in one of his fave studios in Brisbane; Alchemix Recording Studios @ the Gabba. In addition, Bryan also has been involved in some live work, recently playing the timekeeper for Brisbane Festival 2006 play called 'COORPAROO SK8' and also filling in some big shoes for SHENZO's ELECTRIC STUNT ORCHESTRA in Hong Kong(2006). Occasionally you will see Bryan around Brisbane also playing covers with regular band ANGRY DWARF but to this date his biggest claim to fame would have to be GLOCKENSPIEL But do stay tuned and keep your ears open for a couple of new projects for this drummer. It might get a bit 'sexual', or it might get a bit like 'polishing a turd' so to speak.... who knows.
It is in GLOCKENSPIEL that Bryan was able to acquire the name 'MR CYMBALS' thanks to a severely underrated band called 'Mission to Uranus' (thanks to CLINT for the nickname). It is also with GLOCK that Mr Cymbals was able to support such acts as The Screaming Jets, The Cruel Sea, Resin Dogs and STEVE VAI at the Arena (FEB 2000). All of these gigs were made possible with the help of endorsments from Meinl cymbals and Mapex Drums of course!!
Today Bryan continues to learn and spread the word that is called GROOVE! Keep your ears open for gigs around Brisbane, come in and say hi! Otherwise just drop a quick email at [email protected]
