The Denni Ames Project

About Me

Denni spend many years playing in a band that went by quite a few different names, a few of them being Holly Roxx ( god forbid), Boystown, Young Guns and eventually Polecat. Touring about the States with his younger brother Shane Ames (Free Lasting Souls) , rockin' buddy Dave Crow (JuJu Beans & Cherry Blossom Clinic),and fellow bandmates, they rocked the towns leaving nothing but memorable shows ( and after shows of course). But he eventually moved on to a less noteworthy career of construction. Years of partying, playing for little less than enough to get to the next show, and of course more partying, left Denni tired and in dire need of a new life. After spending some time rejuvenating, getting rid of a whiny girlfriend, and taking a new perspective on life, Denni gets into computers and graphic arts. Skip ahead a few years.... well actually a decade or more. Denni is happily married to a beautiful, amazing Turkish woman named Nilufer, lives in Istanbul, a city so amazing he can't stop talking about it, and enjoys a wonderful life of seafood, seaside, and oil painting. So now, of course the curse of music comes back to haunt him. Without a band or recording studio, he has little choice but to make the rest of the world suffer thru his music thru this wonderful website. Please remember, these are all experimental tunes, written and recorded by Denni at his home. There's no studio, and most importantly, there's no younger brother to actually sing, so Denni has to do it all by himself. Denni apologizes ahead of time for the quality saying "I finally figured out that I don't actually write songs so much as I record my emotional experiences, ... sort of a musical diary I suppose. They usually tend to be short snippets of musical ideas linked to deeply felt thoughts or emotions. Most times off-beat and irregular in pattern, but still recognizable as something attainable. I write music the same way I paint. I have no formal training, mainly because I believe it inhibits you from expressing your true self, and secondly, because I am by nature a very emotional person. Therefore the thought of writing or painting scares the hell out of me, .... until the moment arrives and I am actually performing the deed. Then, ... it is pure Nirvana!"Best Regards

Band Members: Well, there's me of course. Then there's the other me, the one who nags me to write songs and actually sing them. That "me" won't shut up until I comply and therefore I do. So, I guess that's pretty much it. You know... the two of me!
Influences: Soooo many, where to start???? I grew up with the Beatles, Smokie, Cat Stevens, John Denver, Taj Mahal.... I played Banjo to Bill Monroe, lots of Bluegrass, .... I love ELO, Cheap Trick, Bay City Rollers, .... still listen to all of them... America, Boston, Abba, BeeGees, Alice Cooper, Todd Rundgren, Ironhorse, Nazareth, Grand Funk, oh yeah, ... The Cars, Barry White, Mozart, ...Guess Who, .... I mean the list is huge. I love Deep Forest and alot of ambient music which is great for painting or relaxing. Currently I listen to alot of Turkish Artists, old and new, Tarkan, Mustafa Sandal, ... also Dido (brilliant voice and songwriting), Manson, Moby, Nusound, ....etc. I love all sorts of music.
Sounds Like: I'm not sure and can't be the judge of that. Personally, I think my voice sounds much like when the toilet backs up, but again, I'm not a very confident person in that department. But I do like the music I write...
