Dan and Alexi from the Handsome Furs came over to Samir’s house one night for his mom's good ole' curry. He played them some new songs he was working on. They liked what they heard and asked him if he wanted to open for their upcoming Montreal show. It seemed like a pretty decent idea so Samir sat and waited. Two weeks passed and the show was a day away. Luckily, Jon and Dave from Poorfolk were in town and Samir begged them to stay the weekend and play the show with him. They rehearsed for a day and played Club Lambi under the name “ROME.â€Dan was all “Come on tour with us and get a drummer†so Samir went drummer hunting. He visited fine establishments and put the word out...one day while he was trying out a new vocal effect at the music store, he heard about a drummer named Yann. They met and got along.Coincidentally, Ryder Havdale, an old friend from Vancouver’s Mohawk Lodge was in town for Dan and Alexi’s wedding. He agreed to hold down the low end and squat on Samir’s couch for the summer.Around the same time, the Internet revealed that Rome was a name shared by a German industrial band, a Hispanic hip hop producer from LA and a folk band from some other place.Rome was sacked. Samir decided to name the band Silver Springs, after the Fleetwood Mac song that never made it on to Rumors.Silver Springs are currently recording their debut EP at Breakglass Studios in Montreal.
