LABEL BIO
Lens Records is a Chicago based record label created to help support and distribute the works of artists who prefer to work with a smaller, artist driven label. The label has released a variety of work in different genres including ambient, experimental, dark ambient, electronic, rock, modern classical, electroacoustic and field recordings.
Fascinated with the endless possibilities of experimental music and the world around us - Lens Records seeks to establish itself as an open-minded outlet for artists who may not have an opportunity to release their music on any other label. Lens seeks artists who have a passion for creating music they love and the determination to endure and overcome the obstacles they face in presenting that music to the world.
We have established a strong roster of artists helping to establish the identity of Lens Records including Ahab Rex , Avagami , Beehatch , Dead Voices on Air , The Division , Delicate Noise , Emulsion , Encomiast , Melter , Miss Autopsy , Mr Russia , phØnØn , Rapoon , Robert Scott Thompson , Simon Whetham & Sky Burial .

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: lensrecords.com
Band Members: RAPOON - Dark Rivers
Dark Rivers is the sonic exploration and reflection of a particular stretch of landscape in the north of England. This is the home of Rapoon’s Robin Storey and it is an essential part of who he is. With Dark Rivers, Robin Storey has created another masterpiece in his collection of essential artistic achievements and ever-evolving musical vocabulary.

THE DIVISION - Mantras
Matthew Schultz (Lab Report, Pigface) has unveiled his newest endeavor, The Division. This sound project is a reconstruction of ancient spells and rituals reinterpreted aurally by one of the leading dark ambient artists of our time. With this newest disc Mantras, Schultz has delved into the esoteric and ancient fraternal order of The Division.

MR RUSSIA - Teething
MR RUSSIA is a combo of relentless rhythm, solid bass lines and cocky vocals one could describe as the bastard offspring of Iggy Pop and The White Stripes. With a brash, tactless sound all their own, the Chicago fourpiece welcomes easy comparisons to Shellac and Death from Above 1979, as well as drawing influences from hard-to-pinpoint sources such as XTC and Magazine.

BEEHATCH - Brood
Their self-titled debut was hailed as a "killer" capable of "surpassing all trends and musical phases" and a "totally wonderful aural experience." Not surprisingly, Brood refines the "fully fledged sonic odyssey" of their debut and presents 11 tracks that see the band continuing to expand, explore and experiment with their unique fingerprint.

MISS AUTOPSY - The Hill
Their 3rd release - a sound culled from acoustic and electric guitars, stripped down drum beats & tense Americana blues vocals. Engineered and produced by Grammy nominated producer/engineer/mixer John Congleton (Explosions In The Sky, Polyphonic Spree, 90 Day Men).

EMULSION - Blue Sky Remixes
Is a collection of remixings of Emulsion’s highly acclaimed CD Blue Sky Objective by Caural (Mush, Chocolate Industries, Consumers Research & Development), Strategy (Kranky, ORAC, Community Library), Isan (Morr Music, Darla), Outputmessage (Ghostly, Melodic, Echelon) and Bovaflux (Highpoint Lowlife).

ROBERT SCOTT THOMPSON - Poesis Athesis
Robert Scott Thompson's debut release for Lens Records is compiled from over 10 hours of music composed by Thompson over a two year period. With Poesis Athesis, Thompson has created a work that spawns from his past while moving into newer creative explorations of sound and mind.

BEEHATCH - Beehatch
BEEHATCH is the new project from Phil Western (Download, platEAU, Kone, Frozen Rabbit) and Mark Spybey (Dead Voices On Air, Reformed Faction, Zoviet*France, Download), who met in Vancouver, whilst playing together in Download. Ten years have elapsed since they last worked together.

AVAGAMI - Metagami
Avagami's debut album is welcome shock-treatment for an increasingly homogenized indie-brain. 'Metagami' displays a controlled balance between the recognizable & the uncharted. An abundance of idiosyncratic lyrical content is elaborately couched in lush, preternatural layers of luscious synth-pop, vital & explosive percussion, & artful parallaxes of saxaphone - real and otherwise.

ENCOMIAST - Self-titled
Encomiast have been harvesting an audience of enthusiastic music fans for almost a decade now. With six full-length releases, 2 EP’s and half a dozen compilation appearances, Encomiast are one of the most highly regarded and prolific artists in the dark ambient/drone genre. For this Self-titled CD - Encomiast mined their extensive early recordings and un-released material.

EMULSION - Blue Sky Objective
Emulsion’s full-length debut CD brings together elements of 80’s electro, cutting-edge IDM, and bouncy melodies steeped in indie influences. For fans of: Solvent, Casino Versus Japan & Ulrich Schnauss.

AHAB REX- Blood on Blonde
Ahab’s gripping lyrics and heartfelt melodies explore the emotional underbelly of life. Sometimes dark and gritty, sometimes sweet and full of promise but always real. Ahab Rex is unapologetic, he combines aggressive rock vocals with smooth refrains along with killer pop sensibility.

DELICLATE NOISE - Diversion
Layered, plodding backbeats and textured synth washes and a human voice all blend together to create a diverse form of electronica. Mark's musical influences are evident as well - Massive Attack, Depeche Mode, Air and Recoil - all mesh to form an interesting blend of electronic music that is engaging, lyrical and atmospheric.
