Neon Heart started out in 2006 when sticksman Magnus and Malkolm the bass player began jamming and discovered that Malkolm's hypnotic riffs but playful attitude to improvisation were the ideal complement to Magnus's steady rhythms and groovebox loops.
In 2007 a darker tendency was added by jack-of-all trades Ben with moody keys and effect-laden computer samplings. A core group was now formed.
The picture was completed by Markus the jazz trumpeter, who can be heard on our four demo tracks from 2007.
However, since Markus lives very far from Stockholm – where the band is located – we kept on looking for horns nearer home...
In early 2008, Neon Heart was suddenly joined by Yann, on bass and contra bass clarinets, and Anders, on alto and soprano saxes. If, up to this stage, Neon Heart had been nurturing something new and uncertain, the missing pieces now fell in place.
Since then, we have been playing in this five-piece config, elaborating on the original idea on jamming over riffs and loops, even venturing into more harmonically complex ballads. Summer 2008, we recorded the six demo tunes, which you can listen to or download here on MySpace, and played a couple of great gigs.
2009, we have more gigs in the pipeline in the Stockholm area. Watch this space for more information.
Neon Heart wants to make you dance but can't promise to make you happy.
Below are some videos from our gig on May 22 at the Kjartan DepARTure event at Hammarby ArtPort in Stockholm.
