J. Poppie, born Micah T. Livingston, is known to many a hip hop savior. As a young lyricist and MC, J. Poppie has been exposing raw and original hip hop music to crowds in and around New York City. As he continues to draw positive feedback, J. Poppie is expanding the reach of his words by distributing his first solo mixtape and partaking in local performances. As he makes the transition from his full-time job to his music career, he anticipates living his fondest dream. He begins to see the dream unfold that began as a youth and awaits the next step on this challenging journey. J. Poppie was born in Kings County, Brooklyn to Patricia Walters of Jamaica, W.I. and Steven Livingston of Trinidad, W.I. Being raised by West Indian parents exposed him to reggae, soca, gospel, hip hop, and R&B; music which instilled a lifelong gift in his life. At the age of 11, J. Poppie wrote poetry that was so exquisite, it moved his teacher and earned him a passing grade. She was impressed by his excellent delivery and fine choice of words. This was the beginning of what J. Poppie found was his greatest talent- writing. Upon this discovery, J. Poppie began working with childhood friends to get his newfound career started when he realized no one in the game was making the kind of music he wanted to hear. He tried forming a group that cared about uplifting society and spoke the truth. However, egos, money, and artistic views collided and resulted in his departure from this crowd to pursue a solo music career. During his sophomore year in high school, J. Poppie met with Jasbir “Sause†Singh, an excellent vocalist and songwriter, who became one of the biggest supporters of his music. Alongside was Alton Burrell, a DJ who was born with the skills to mix, blend, and cut up music on the turntables. With limited resources, this trio came together and formed The Lounge Entertainment. Motivated by the love and support of these brothers, J. Poppie recorded his first compilation mixtape on only two turntables and a mic then named it, “The Lounge Entertainment Presents Vol. Iâ€. Even with low sound quality and no distribution deal, the team hand-delivered the mixtape to family, friends, and NYC locals. He received lots of positive reviews on his rap skills & created a buzz for himself. As J. Poppie works hard toward pursuing music, he has always had obligations to dear family members which require him working a full time job. Trying to manage these long shifts while daydreaming about a future in music is difficult but J. uses it to make more hardhitting music. His ill feelings and experiences within the workforce is voiced in his hit song, “I Quit My Job,†as he encourages independence and speaks on the hardships faced on his road to success. Even with the drawbacks, J.Poppie continues to record tracks and write music. He has recorded hundreds of songs, ghostwrites for local artists, and has the ability to play the piano to create his own music. His myspace page, www.myspace.com/jpoppiesmusic, receives new hits everyday and now over 6, 000. J. Poppie has come a long way from his days hanging out at the Boys & Girls Club creating music with his team. He has recently released his first solo mixtape, “The Heart, Mind, and Soul of J. Poppie†which speaks of his hard times growing up in Brooklyn and the passion he holds for a successful future. His music serves as a timeline of his life as he only speaks on a lifestyle he knows well. J. Poppie provides listeners with relatable lyrics, seamless beats, and a taste of his struggle. His music is not only hip hop but acts as an urban movement, giving his listeners an uplifting perspective on urban culture, no short of true entertainment. As everyday marks another battle toward success, J. Poppie is not far from living the young rapper’s dream. He’s got great style, unique flow, genuine lyrics, and speaks with his heart, mind, and soul. He encompasses all the elements needed to take the hip hop industry by storm and is prepared to fight for his spot to do so.This Bio was created, interviewed, and arranged by:Delicia Davis President, Precise Production Group Inc. 917.518.0720 [email protected] www.preciseproductiongroup.com
