Colony Underground is a six piece live hip-hip crew from the Boston area. The line up has changed many times; people move, quit, join the army, go to jail, and get their punk ass's kicked out. But one thing remains the same LYRICS, the essence of hip-hop, the crew and comradery, even though people come and go they will always be members and new one's will be added to the ever growing colony, this is it's current form, but the idea is to let it exist as separate entity. It started originally in Weymouth, Ma. way back in 96 drinking, smoking, tripping, and drugin', in their boy Twist's basement. They'd get lit and out would come the tascam 4 track, dr.rhythm drum machine, bottom of the line sampler, and radio shack mics. With no money or motivation to get jobs, they had no shitty equipment and kind of by accident formed a live band which eventually went from the basement, to bars, and then onto clubs such as The Middle East Downstairs, Good Times, The Milky Way Cafe, Sky Bar, and The Western Front, among others. They’ve also performed with various Boston hip-hop acts such as the Skitzofreniks, O.V.M., Jake the Snake, The Greater Good, Audible Mainframe, Reks, and Slaine. Colony also had the honor of opening up for the legendary Parrish Smith of EPMD fame.Marc Scortino, coordinator of the 2004 Block Island Music Festival said, “You blew me away”. After being invited back in 2005, Marc added, “You guys once again tore the roof off. You guys are total pros.” Mike C. with the MassCann/NORML organization also praised Colony and scheduled them to perform at the 15th annual Freedom Rally in Boston which was unfortunately rained out for the first time ever.Colony has been featured and also played live at the Emerson College station 88.9 FM WERS @ nite, with hosts E-Skillz and DJ JayCeeOh. the song LEVITATE was released on JayCeeOh’s album, “Fools Don’t Know“. The single COLONY UNDER THE GROUND can be found on the new Leedz Edutainment Boston hip-hop compilation, “Mass Movementz“. They've been around for a while and ain't going no where the Colony Underground migrated up from the basement so don't sleep.
