Eduardo Martinez, born August 8, 1967 in Cartagena de Indias Colombia, is one of Colombia’s greatest percussionists. As a respected ambasador of Colombia’s traditional rhythms, his music explores the influence of indigenous instruments which belong to the Colombian Atlantic as well as those of the African origen. This is reperesented in the diversity of the region, particularly demonstrated utilizing the "Gaitas" and the "Tambores de Amarre." His extensive studies in regards to these themes have allowed him to represent his native Colombia in various Festivals and Symposiums around the world. Because of the mastery of his art, he is regularly commissioned by well known Colombian artists, to participate as the percussionist on their recordings. Some of these artists are Toto La Momposina, with whom he recorded "Candela Viva" at the Peter Gabriel studios in 1992, Petrona Martinez, Chelito De Castro, Diego Valdez, Frncisco Zumaque, Ramon Benitez, Gustavo Arena, Moises Angulo, Checo Acosta, La Negra Grande De Colombia, Nicoyembe. His most recent projects were the International Festival "Todos Los Tambores," organized by CONAC in Venezuela and the International Percussion Festival sponsored by the Conservatory of Music in Puerto Rico. In 2006 Eduardo Martinez realized one of his greatest dreams when he went into the studio and arranged and recorded his own CD which is called ACABACION.
