About Me

MAMA's ROCKIN' EVE
Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008
Easy Eddie's in Huntersville, N.C.
This party started as a celebration of the strength of Cindy Mahurin. She has forever been a source of support and love for her two grown children, her husband, her family and her community. Many folks who've fallen on hard times have had her to lean on, so when she was diagnosed with lung cancer in the summer of 2007, I decided to organize Mama's Rockin' Eve not only to raise money to assist with treatment costs, but to support and to encourage her through this battle and celebrate the woman she is and the love that she gives. She is truly amazing. She's my hero, after all, and my mother.
The event was held Saturday, Sept. 8 at Twin Oaks in Denver... and it was a smashing success. (You can read about it in the Full Throttle blog above.) In fact, it was such an incredible experience that I've decided to make it an annual event...
So in November, we'll do it again, calling it by the same name as a shout out to the same great lady. Only this time the party will be at Easy Eddie's in Huntersville, featuring rockin' blues band WSNB and the sweet, wailin' voice of Melissa McKinney. Profits from the event will go to Turning Point, a safe haven for battered women and advocacy organization that works to "turn our community away from domestic violence." Visit www.turningpoint.org for more information about this great organization.
But that's not all... from now until Nov. 8, we're also accepting donations of nonperishable food, paper products, clothing for women and children and more. Those donations will be distributed to Turning Point and other domestic violence shelters in the region. Look below the poster at left for a list of needed items and drop-off locations.
Domestic violence is a cause close to my own heart; it's a personal one for my family... and I think one that touches the lives of more people than one might realize.
Please take a moment to check it out, and feel free to shoot me a message with any questions. Thanks!! =)
