SALUTE ONE OF YOUR UP AND COMING RAP GODS.....YOUNG PROTEJE', also known by his rap alter-ego SKREWFASE GAMBINO or "Starkim" as they know him around the streets of Long Island, NY, was raised in an era where crime, gang violence, rap music and television were the examples that lead our generation. May 16, 1985, "the underground legend" was born in Los Angeles, California. His then estranged father, a popular Uptown NYC, Mid-west and west coast OG, who also was a notorious hustler/pimp from the "old school" known for his mafia ties and street cohorts. Grandfather growing up in a host of foster homes and rehabilitation institutes, he developed his street smarts and succumbed to the evils of his then much racist society of the 1960's, 70's, 80's etc. His father's parents may have inspired such behavior, for Skrewfase's paternal grandfather was a notorious Chicago gangster nicknamed "Killa" who ran the streets committing robberies and murders during a time of racial tension in both Mississippi and Chicago. Young Pro's paternal grandmother was fully Asian and ran brothels from the NYC streets, south and west coasts. Young Proteje's maternal grandfather was acquainted with the early 1950's and 60's Uptown NYC number running and herion boom, unfortunately becoming a victim of his own product, qcquainted with Frank Lucas' Country Boys Gang (American Gangster) while singing in a quartet with his 3 brothers. Proteje's mother left Brooklyn/Long Island, New York to get acqauinted with the west coast, landing herself in Los Angeles, however originally hailing from both Brooklyn (East New York/Canarsie) and Long Island, New York. May 16 ,1985, Proteje' was born in LA County Hospital and resided in the LaCienega Strip, Golden Hills and Black P. Stone Jungles (Baldwin Village; ie Training Day), Las Vegas and San Diego. Most of his American family came from the southern states of North Carolina, Georgia, New Orleans, Mississippi and Florida to establish their roots all over the Bronx, Harlem and Brooklyn. The one we moniker "Skrewfase Gambino" (Pro's alter-music ego; ie Notorious BIG/Biggie Smalls) hails from Jamaican, Chinese, Irish, Native American and Hispanic descent, with knowledge of many cultures and customs. Around the age of 2 is when his family relocated to Hempstead, New York preceding a short stay in Brooklyn. Growing up in the suburbs, he learned how to adapt to diverse people and situations while on his own in the New York City streets. In the household, growing up "Grandma's baby", while Pro's single mother working two jobs to one day get back on her feet for her son. The name Proteje' would be a hard earned title, proven when he transferred from Hempstead primary school to Freeport Public Schools where Pro was placed in honor and advanced classes. Always growing up the youngest of the bunch, he became precocious, way ahead of his time absorbing his surroundings into his growing, young and perceptive mind. The verbally and sometimes physically abusive household included 2 uncles, cousins, aunts, nieces, foster children, extended family and tenants. His house was always the "party house" for every neighborhood event from block parties to local get togethers. Growing up in a Baptist Christian household, was merely a cover-up of the drug/alcohol addictions that held his family hostage. Young Proteje' used his troubles as fuel to keep striving to never have to go through what his elder family had previously experienced. Young Proteje' found his own addiction which subsequently became music, before his addiction to street money. From the beginning he was always interested in music coming from an extremely music-oriented family. This young protege's mother was part of an early-90's R&B group (Oscar-Epic Records/Characters, LLC) which toured nationwide and appeared on 90's shows such as Arsenio Hall, HBO and MTV segments. These tagalong trips blessed Proteje' many unbelievable introductions and autographed merchandise. A brief battle with life-threatening Cancer restricted his mother to an Intensive Care Unit room for months, while Young Proteje slowly watched his family fade away at the age of 12. Around this time Young Proteje' became one of the 1st kids in school with a cell phone (StarTac) and beeper (Skytel) at the age of 12. Pro got his 1st gun at 13 from an exchange from a corner transaction that would change his life forever. His first hustle was selling bootlegged mixed tapes and videotapes which earned him his entrepenurial skills, pager and cellular phone before his time, simultaneously working for his Uncle. With both maternal grandparents very involved in the church choirs. Proteje's late Uncle Gregory Forbes was considered one of the most talented pianist in the east coast landing him gigs with "Mama, I Wanna Sing" and other famous Broadway plays accompanying Pro's late grandmother, Willia B. Lewis, a well known local Gospel Vocalist as well. At the age of 10, he was enlightened by Born Justice and Bismi Allah, some older 5% Nation of Gods & Earth members who fed his brain with the Afrocentric/Asiatic pride lessons. From there he led a chapter of the Nation of Gods and Earths at the age of 12 after recieving his attribute "Starkim I-Born Reality" and a full 120 degree of knowledge lessons. Eventually he birth StarMel Magnetic (DBL's Haze) and Prince Power, Justice and his lieutenants of the 5% (God-Body) hierarchy. His new alignment with the Five Percent Nation introduced him to the "OGs" of the different Long Island neighborhoods as they were impressed with his abundance and understanding of the Supreme 120 teachings. First being introduced to rap through the windows of MTV, he glamorized the uprising of the culture we today call hip-hop. Yo! MTV Raps was his favorite show as a child, while others were watching cartoons and playing outside. Starting off, he would memorize his favorite song's lyrics and emulate them on personal camcorders around the way. Pro names Eric B & Rakim, De La Soul and EPMD as his earliest influences, being from his homebase "Strong Island". His first sight and feel of his mom's Audi 3000, his uncles' BMW 325i's and Mercedes Benz E190's in the late 80's and early 90's caught his attention and became an inspiration to shine like the old heads running the blocks in this new millineum, using music as his refuge. Pro simultaneously resided in Hempstead, New York (Baldwin Rd, Parkside, Desert, The Heights) for 10 years and attended Freeport Public Schools, where he learned how to freestyle rap/battle, rocking the hallways, locker room and lunchrooms everyday. 1999, Young Pro began attending Freeport High School, where his rap skills climbed more and more each day. Daily he would be bored in class, starting to draw pictures of the classmates which soon was replaced by writing quick, simple lyrics. As time progressed, his craft grew and to compliment his talent, he learned how to freestyle. Acquiring attention from the classmates, he would divert their attention to the side of the cafeteria where the lyrical spars would take place. His first group included local talent Boogz (1st Inf/FAAM/FBN), Haze (DBL), Dwayne (Aeson) and Justice, called Natural Born Killaz (NBK), freestyling from parks to school to Haze's Grandmothers karaoke machine laying tapes down. Later, he and best friend, Denny, (better known as "Sparc Fire aka Moreless") would battle for the school's crown of best rapper. Although the two were competitive, they would later join forces with the late "Crillz" aka "True Story", Miguel Adames (RIP) and formed 3 Deep, a local rap group that was in the studio once to three times a week. The trio stuck together until their breakup in 2001. From there on the "KLICK-N-SPARC" duo was formed dubbing themselves "The Eastern Conference ALL-STARS" or "The 2 Biggest things in NY since the towers dropped". 2005, KLICK-N-SPARC: Put Ya Money Up Vol. 1 was unleashed to the public preceding a few hot demo CDs, hosted by Jamaica, Queens' own DJ OnPoint, known for hosting the JOE BUDDEN:Mood Muzik mixtape series. During their career they recorded various songs in Liveson Studios (D-Block) and other big time labs all across Metropolitan NYC. Also performed in various underground and Who's Next showcases. In addition, Skrewfase Gambino became involved in modeling and was a part of the "Gettoe Momz/Diplomatic Man" (now known as "Nostic") fashion show in downtown Manhattan. Skrewfase Gambino's first job working for his Uncle Rob (Notorious 21's Sexatary) at a popular family-owned Electronics store selling/repairing cellular phones and pagers (E-Z Paging & Communications). Around this time birthed his gift of his songwriting, which he took full advantage of in class, detention and gym class with his re-newed sense of Afrocentrism, knowledge, wisdom and understanding. On the flip side of the things also early exposure and exploitation to the harsh realities of drug dealing/abuse, racism, poverty and ignorance. Small-time side hustles and part-time employment kept the freshest clothes on his back, the females chasing and the haters hating. After playing significant leadership roles in the local "3 letter youth gangs" of his neighborhood, Skrewfase was offered a riskier oppurtunity as the big homies from Long Island to New Jersey would continue to offer him leadership/membership of the Bloods (Sex Money Murder, 9 Trey Gangsters, 59 Brims) around their growing ages of 2003, in addition to peddling drugs locally and becoming heavily addicted to marijuana and angel dust (wet) which he has left alone. After five immediate family members and close family friends were succumbed in a short 3-year span to violence, accidents, jail and the AIDS epidimic, he was easily manipulated into believing it was time to flip the script and put in work to alleviate the pain. Around this time he lost his stepfather Eddie Ames to a fatal car accident (2001). Eventually, Skrewfase withdrew from Nassau Community College after a few months, altering his life's plan and demeanor by choosing to put the books aside to gamble with the fast life over humility. Hanging out in the Bronx, Harlem and Brooklyn is where Pro earned his "ghetto pass", proving that he could break the "Long Islander" stereotype and keep up with the Concrete Jungle, frequenting industry parties, drug spots and gang meetings. He had become fully active in the Sex Money Murder Bloods and then after a gang raid a switch to the Nine Trey Gangsters sect. A brief relocation to Elmont/Queens Village, NY gave pro his own blocks to control to seal the deal, permitting easy access and getaway to and from the city. The streets molded Pro from a follower to a leader and his words dictated the actions of even the wildest gangsters. The gang life was "bittersweet" Pro proclaims while laughing however holding back a stale tear. He learned his philosophies of loyalty, trust and honor, through real life situations and struggles, while establishing and living by a list of principles centered around a chain-of command ethic. Young Proteje' aka Skrewfase Gambino has been lucky enough to survive beating a felony drug possession from a high felony to a midemeanor in 2006, firearm possession/trafficking charges running concurrent to a secret indictment of local NY & NJ statewide and federal R.I.C.O. /Gang Unit Investigation which included possible charges of conspiracy, possession and prostitution ring charges but surviving a botched robbery style home invasion and lived through the pain of losing almost everyone that was special to him. Things once again became disrupted when one of his soldiers and a higher ranking Brim were arrested on gang-related shooting charges in Winston-Salem, NC. 2007, he left the United Blood Nation organization and his status permanently to join the Almighty Black P. Stone Nation, re-establishing himself with his original quasi-Islamic principles/ideology. As of today he has taken "Shahadah" and is a Sunni Muslim reverted and born again named Abd' Shakur Ali Muhammad. who submits to the will of and thanks Allah that he has came this far, stripes and no scars. He plans to go full-speed ahead with his rap career, with a new outlook, persona and subject matter. Understanding that time is of the essence, dreams can come true, and death being imminent, Spring 2008, Skrewfase Gambino returned to the streets of New York to reclaim his throne. November 2008, his father returned to the streets as a free man from his long federal prison bid to re-acquaint and tear the streets up with the young protege.....TO BE CONTINUED
