Be anxious about NOTHING.

About Me

I am Jessica, a.k.a Pinguina, Kates, Bugsy, and any other random nicknames some of these chinchillas will bestow upon me. I am a half-Ecuadorian, somewhat sarcastic, outspoken yet shy Christ Loving Daughter, big and little Sister, Favorite Prima (yay!), Auntie, Friend, photography enthusiast, dog lover, Myspace fanatic, and many other things that I probably left out and will surely add when they come to my attention. I aspire to be a woman who is a shining example of what Christ's love is. This means going far beyond talk. Talk is cheap. I can say that I love people, but unless I act on it, and follow through with choosing to love even those who are difficult to love, then I have failed. I think sometimes it's easier to love people who I seemingly have no connection with, (someone who is not included in my daily life,) than it is to love the people who will criticize me and who's opinions can penetrate the lies I have convinced myself are true. More hurt comes from the ones who know me best, especially when that hurt has truth to it. I am a student at Western Culinary Institute right now, and trying to find the place in this world that is just my size. I am really interested in catering as opposed to working in a restaurant. To go along with catering, I am in love with the idea of being a food stylist for the Food Network or a magazine like Bon Apetite. Someday I would like to have my own Inn (larger and more hotel-ish than a B&B but without loosing the homey feel that you get with a large hotel establishment). My goal is to find the perfect business partner who has a similar dream and work towards making it come true in the somewhat distant future.

My Interests

Photography is AWESOME!!! There is something about freezing expression on film that brings me joy. I don't know how much talent I have for the art form, but everything gets better with practice, right?I love languages! I speak Spanish, but I long to learn italian and french. Japanese would be cool to learn too. I will probably end up a high school teacher, hopefully teaching one of these languages. Or even better, teaching in a foreign country would rock my world.

I'd like to meet:

Jesus, but I already know that will happen soon enough. Paul (the apostle) would be great to have a chat with. Everyone else is an added bonus. Genuine people are preferred. I do wish I could meet my grandma on my dad's side. I've heard a lot of really neat things about her, and she sounds like a character. I REALLY wish someone would introduce me to my future husband (Enough said). As far as famous people go, they are just people. Not that I'm against it, I'm just not pining away to meet someone just because they are famous. --

Music:

I love worship. There is something about lifting your voice in praise to your creator that makes me tingly. Casting Crowns, "I'll Praise You With a Dance" says it well. Mercy Me and Jeremy Camp have some excellent cuts too. Other tunes by Yuridia, Motel, Johnny Cash, Ella Fitzgerald, Van Morrison, Zap Mama, The Wreckers, Brooks & Dunn, and a bunch of others.I have recently discovered that I actually do like some country, and a lot of the music my parents "embarrassed" me wth as a kid tends to ring my bell in my right bold age of 22 (Such as Moody Blues, Jimmy Buffett, etc.)Along with all of these, I like just about everything else, whatever makes me want to move is all good in my book. Reggaeton is a new interest of mine, and who knows what it will be next week.I love to dance, but it usually takes getting a few cocktails in me para bailar en publico. I would love to learn how to Salsa. It looks muy divertido.

Movies:

Pride & Prejudice, Walk the Line, Pirates of the Carribbean (Curse of the Black Pearl and Dead Man's Chest, Wedding Crashers, Ever After, Maria Full of Grace, Napoleon Dynamite, Waiting For Guffman, Pretty Woman, Happy Gilmore, Zoolander, Dodgeball, The Notebook, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Dirty Dancing (the original and Havana Nights), Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants, Billy Madison, 10 Things I Hate About You, How to lose a Guy in 10 days, My Best Friend's Wedding, Enough, and I am an absolute geek for Harry Potter, and many, many others.

Television:

I Love Grey's Anatomy and Law & Order: SVU. Gilmore Girls is full of cheek, wit and sarcasm, I LOVE IT!!! Usually I'm working, this is sad, but helpful, because otherwise, I would become addicted to television, I'm sure.

Books:

"Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to the Lord--this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--His good, pleasing and perfect will." (Romans 12: 1, 2) Blue Like Jazz, The Notebook, A Time For Dancing, Blue Shoe, Traveling Mercies, All the Harry Potter books, Fragments, etc.In addition to La Santa Biblia, I love the writing of Donald Miller, Especially Blue Like Jazz, but I am currently reading and loving Searching for God Knows What. Other books: The Notebook, The Wedding, Fragments, A Time For Dancing, Blue Shoe, The Betty Crocker Cookbook, and all the Harry Potter books...yes, I am a Harry Potter Geek.

Heroes:

My sis is one of the greatest people I know. (Raising a kid on her own while going to school full time is not easy.) Also, my cousin, Lauren, carries a tremendous amount of stress in her life, but carries herself with so much grace that it amazes me! I can only aspire to be like each of these remarkable women.

Blessed!

I have so much to be thankful for. Right now, two things stand out specifically: The first, is that my dad, whom I adore more than I can say, is cancer free, as of today! Only those who have been in t...

I think God is trying to teach me some stuff right now. He's not being gentle in his manner of doing it, either. I think He's trying to make me see that even the people who I put the most trust in wil...

why?

For some people, I know this will ring true: Why is it that anytime you fill out a survey, (or profile like that of myspace) you are given the option of choosing only one ethnicity, or putting other. ...

The unfun life stuff

Sometimes life is just shitty. All you can do is let out a good cry, and get the shittiness over with. That's kind of how things have been for the past week or so. I can't really explain why, but thin...

For those of you who don't know, I have recently started school at Western Culinary Institute (In Portland). I'm in the Culinary Arts Program which, for those who don't know, is food, not pastry. I am...
