These tracks started off as a series of bad demos recorded in a cellar at home during a frustrating 2007. At the end of a long period of production I was finally persuaded to let go and I handed the project over: one of my better musical decisions.
Darryl Torr at Open Room agreed to take on the initial recording project and ensured Matt Marinus was available to lay down the drum tracks. I was lucky enough to get Ray Green to agree to the guitar work. The ‘basement’ keyboard tracks, samples and guitar bits survived the edits. Strange but true.
The project moved up a gear when Niklas Fairclough (Tree 63) agreed to mix. Nik insisted on some better quality tracking and the bass and drums were rerecorded with Alan Bowen and Bruce Baker. Evan Roberts weaved some B3 magic and we were good to go.
I’d love to have a long list of people to thank but the truth is that this was simple project put together by an obsessive and a few professionals.
A special mention to Nik for being hard to please and for pushing me and to Darryl for being so damn encouraging. Ray and Matt are two immensely talented and hardworking musicians. I couldn’t have asked for better.
